3/4 of your pictures are of that square. Did you just hang out there the whole time? Or did the civet cats get to everything? :)

The picture with the title "A lake that can be seen to the right of the picture in Guthong."

The sign is in english. Is that very common in Beijing?

story?

I went to Beijing, China about five years ago. Got to Tianamen Square - it wasn't five minutes before people with Falun Gong (a very large, just banned religious group with more than 100 million members) began unfurling banners spontaneously in the sqaure as an act of protest. As soon as they'd unravel another banner, the police (both uniformed and plain-clothed) would just pounce on them and drag them into ominous looking "public security" vans. I could see blood as they beat them. So, at the behest of my dad, I started recording what was going on our brand new camcorder. I tried to be discreet by holding it down low, turning off the red record light, things like that, but a plain clothes agent saw me and went ape. Started screaming at us in Chinese and before we knew it, there were five members of the local gestapo surrounded us. Because I don't speak Chinese, my father had to talk to them. Just as they were about to motion us into one of those lovely "public security" vans, another group of protestors unfurled more banners and drew all but one agent away, who decided that he had bigger fish to fry and just took away the tape. Of course, it's uncanny how all 8mm tapes look alike...

Bah, I would, but it's at home 10000 miles away in Thailand. I really need to get around to transfering it to computer next time I go back.

Looks pretty awesome. For one of my future vacations I want to do a Far East tour for a month or so. A few weeks in Japan, then Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, etcetera. Not sure exactly how I plan on working it out, but is is just one of those things I want to do.

Edit: not to mention, DVD's can be gotten for pretty cheap, like $1-$2 :D:Q;)

those shirts are counterfeits. don't you know this is what china famous for?

Yeah, I'm sure they're counterfeit, but they look and feel like the real thing, so it dosent bother me.

I took a bunch of pictures of the square (not 3/4) since it is the main highlight and center of Beijing.
