Chess9:
I only mentioned Serotta because
that's the kind of MTB I ride. They don't make them anymore as a production item, though I imagine one could still order a custom one. I doubt I would ever pay anything close to retail for one, but I got my frame brand-new secondhand for $1,000 several years ago (even then the MSRP was $2,850 for the frame).
Bush's crash was definitely on an MTB.
I can't tell what that new Serotta of Kerry's is, other than to say that it is obviously custom. The orange one is confirmed as a custom-painted Ottrott - it is one of the only fully-painted Ottrotts ever built. Apparently he likes the orange and yellow color scheme enough to have his Giro helmet custom-painted as well. With that in mind I could easily imagine the new bike being ti with paint.
Both the red-white-blue bike and the Ottrott are full D-A 10-spd, so they are pretty full-zoot notwithstanding the wheels (which I think might be Ksyrium SSC SLs anyway - it's hard to tell now that they are silver for 2004). Apparently when he crashed a few weeks ago he cracked his
Modolo KX Carbon bars, which are an eye-watering $249 at Excel Sports. For whatever little it's worth, I like the idea of a cyclist as president, because serious cycling is so marginalized among many Americans.
You ride a bike with a 78-degree seat angle as a road bike? Ack! You must get quite a quad workout from that thing! What is the head angle? My
Moots is 74.25, which is the outer edge of what I can imagine safely riding.
EDIT:
Kerry's wheels are definitely Ksyrium SSC SLs, casting aside any doubt about the pimpishness of his many rides. He also has a Colorado III with 10-speed Campy, a nice counterpart to his Shimano bikes (I am an unabashed Campy-phile).
