Picture: Bush after the bike fall

Bush's wounds were allegedly cleaned by his personal physician immediately after his fall. Unless GWB wears a suit to mountain bike and/or doesn't shower after riding (and falling) 17 miles in Texas . . . that picture doesn't make sense. Granted, neither does most Bush policies so I guess anything is possible.

As he traveled around New Haven, the president appeared to be suffering no ill effects from a fall from a mountain bike Saturday other than visible minor abrasions and scratches on his chin, upper lip, nose and right hand. He also had minor abrasions and scratches to both knees, the White House said.

From another article on a totally different subject. Guess its legit.
Is this AP one photoshopped also?

Why do the mods keep allowing the multiple threads on this topic, but lock ones which are positive on Iraq but completely unrelated subjects? Consistency? I don't think so!

Propaganda versus reality . . . as for the picture . . . maybe it is real . . . damn Bush needs a new doctor . . . or some extra Vit K.

I kinda feel sorry for the guy. Not for the well-deserved sh!tstorm he's getting over Iraq and his other failed policies as leader of the greatest nation in history, but over what looks like was a nasty fall. That "gravel-burn" he has on his palms SUCKS.

You know what they say about putting foxes in charge of the henhouse.

Had much worse falls than that as a kid. One time rode my skateboard down the steepest hill in town, at the bottom of the hill as I was going about 30 miles an hour my skateboard got stuck in some rail road tracks. It's funny how it could come to a complete stop while I kept going the same 30 miles an hour, now with no skateboard under me. Hilarity ensued.

Bugs:

Well, now you sound like my kind of man. 🙂 Yeah, been there, done that but with a bike. We used to ride our bikes into an intersection as fast as we could, turn the wheel and slam on the brakes and try to do as many quarter turns as possible. Falling was common. I'd come home almost every day looking like I'd been in a fight with a pit bull. 🙂

Anyway, major props to the President for biking and apparently putting something into it. A lot of you guys on both sides of the political spectrum should do so well and most of you are a lot younger.

At this weekend's Disney Half-Ironman I saw a couple of 70 year olds doing the race (with a 56 mile hilly and technical bike course). Major props to them too.

Get off your butts and get into shape. 🙂

Edit: Crimson, I don't see this as an anti-Bush thread. If I voted solely based on physical abilities, Bush would get my vote hands down.

Ayup...they invade sovereign nations with no justification.

Does anyone know what kind of bike he was on? Are there pics anywhere? I am really curious about this. I can't imagine it was anything as ritzy as Sen Kerry's $8K Serotta Ottrott ST, but one never knows . . .

ouch! looks like coulda hurt! i wonder if that scrape on his chin will scar and prevent facial hair from growing there...

It's a Huffy, cus Bush is a "common man" he got it on layaway at K-mart 😀

I've been trying to find out, but no luck so far. A real American would be riding a Santa Cruz MB. Pick your model of poison.

Wrong! Serotta is the patriot's choice! (Though since Sen Kerry has at least three Serottas, I would think GWB would look elsewhere.) I am actually really curious whether it was something cheap, or midrange, or ultra-swanky. I could certainly imagine him having been given a Trek by Lance at some point, and if that happened I would imagine it would be a full-boat OCLV.

Have you seen Sen Kerry's latest Serotta? I can't tell for sure what model this is - I'm thinking a custom Colorado III with a CXII downtube, but I guess it might be a custom Legend Ti. If it's the latter, it would be insanely expensive with that bladed downtube and full D-A 10-spd, but still probably less than his custom-painted Ottrott ST. Hey - he appears to ride a size similar to mine. You think he locks his garage?

Because when you spam 10 seperate threads in the spam of 2 minutes, it pisses off everyone?

Don Vito:

Do they make a mountain bike? Guess you could put 25 inch tires on a Colorado II and pretend. I was talking about Bush's ride, which supposedly was a mountain bike.

The fit and finish on Serottas are very nice. Their titanium bike is schweeet. 🙂

I can't see spending that much money on ONE bike. I can have a time trial bike, a road bike and mountain bike for the price of a Serotta and have money left over to pay my Ironman entry fees. 🙂

I don't know which model that is Kerry is riding in that one pic, but it doesn't appear to be titanium. He has some Ksy. Elite wheels on it, I think, which are ho-hum wheels. Nice to see him riding a decent bike though.

My favorite ride is my Santa Cruz Roadster which I got from a TT specialist who was tapped for the U.S. VW-Trek team. Short chain stays and a little twitchy with about 78 degree geometry with my seatpost. I ride a "slam" position for my races 'cause I'm an old roadie.

Later.

Chess9:

I only mentioned Serotta because that's the kind of MTB I ride. They don't make them anymore as a production item, though I imagine one could still order a custom one. I doubt I would ever pay anything close to retail for one, but I got my frame brand-new secondhand for $1,000 several years ago (even then the MSRP was $2,850 for the frame).

Bush's crash was definitely on an MTB.

I can't tell what that new Serotta of Kerry's is, other than to say that it is obviously custom. The orange one is confirmed as a custom-painted Ottrott - it is one of the only fully-painted Ottrotts ever built. Apparently he likes the orange and yellow color scheme enough to have his Giro helmet custom-painted as well. With that in mind I could easily imagine the new bike being ti with paint.

Both the red-white-blue bike and the Ottrott are full D-A 10-spd, so they are pretty full-zoot notwithstanding the wheels (which I think might be Ksyrium SSC SLs anyway - it's hard to tell now that they are silver for 2004). Apparently when he crashed a few weeks ago he cracked his Modolo KX Carbon bars, which are an eye-watering $249 at Excel Sports. For whatever little it's worth, I like the idea of a cyclist as president, because serious cycling is so marginalized among many Americans.

You ride a bike with a 78-degree seat angle as a road bike? Ack! You must get quite a quad workout from that thing! What is the head angle? My Moots is 74.25, which is the outer edge of what I can imagine safely riding.

EDIT: Kerry's wheels are definitely Ksyrium SSC SLs, casting aside any doubt about the pimpishness of his many rides. He also has a Colorado III with 10-speed Campy, a nice counterpart to his Shimano bikes (I am an unabashed Campy-phile).
