Well, I finally got my reverse macro rings that allow me to mount my 30mm backwards on my 180mm for a super macro lens that gets me a 6x magnification of the subject. I added onto this my 65mm worth of extension tubes and I'm in the 10x magnification range.

Macro at this level gets absolutely rediculous. The ballpoint is right in front of me, but just FINDING it in the viewfinder is a huge chore because of the extremely shallow depth of field, which at this magnification is measured in the fractions of millimeters, and the dimness of the viewfinder.

Note that the ball is only about a millimeter in diameter.

That's really cool.

Except the one picture how you managed to get your face in it. That's weird.. a face reflecting that big off of a ballpoint pen...

If you click on Original Size (the O) you'll get something that's 1600 x something

Or do you need anything bigger?

Are you the one with the cool waterfalls-type pictures of your vacation? I had saved some of the high-res pics, but I couldn't find them again, so I tried to search for the thread and couldn't find it! :(

Great job behind the camera!

Very cool. I love pics like this. Getting up close with powerful magnification turns everyday objects into grand vistas. :) Nice pics; good focus too. I dig it.

How do you like Smugmug? I have been enjoying your pics over the last few posts.
What are the ups and downs?

I love smugmug :)

I used to do free image servers and smugmug is just so much faster and 100% reliable. Photo storage is unlimited, and the basic membership gets you a 6GB traffic quota a month, which I'm having a hard time getting to.

There's a lot of convenient options to set up your galleries too. These guys for the most part thought up everything, and I've heard their customer service is really friendly and enthusiastic too, unlike places like pbase.

Well worth the annual fee.
