And this is why you set the parking brake when you get out of the car on a boat ramp. :p

Every time I see a Vette with a trailer ball/atchment on it that just piss me off. Its a damm vette, the only thing it should be hauling ia azz. Get a damm Z71.

And for anybody that has a vette with a trailer atchmnet on it, I am looking to buy a 2000 or newwer vette early next year, and if I saw that on one I would not even look any further. So don't try and haul with a Vette. :|

Would not have helped. If you read it it said he keep backing up until the water got under the vette and caused the rear to float, i.e no tires = no traction

I saw a car sink in the sand at Daytona Beach when the tide came in, you can park and drive on the beach during certain hours, the time to clear the cars off the beach had come and gone and the owner had not come to get his car yet, each wave sucked it down a bit more, just like the sand under your feet when the waves go out, by the time a tow truck got there it was buried to the top of the wheels and the tow truck could not do anything, they needed a crane to lift it out.

Easy choice, laugh at him. Victims of other people deserve sympathy, victims of their own stupidity deserve scorn.

Gotta love how the guy taking the pics didn't help for fear of being sued.

Ah, I just skimmed it. I have seen people who didn't use their parking brakes end up almost losing their cars so I just assumed.

That sucks, but doesn't have anything to do with the vette...

I used to tow and launch my 2 jetskis with my 300ZX. It was a fantastic tow vehicle. I never had any "incidents" at the ramp, and probably used it dozens of times to launch. Plus it was fun blowing by people on the interstate.

Now I tow my one jetski with my Jeep Wrangler. ALMOST sunk the jeep a couple weeks ago - when you're trying to launch a boat/ski by yourself, it can be quite a challenging task.

So what happened to me? Backed down the ramp, set the parking brake, hopped out to push the ski off the trailer. As I'm shoving the ski off the trailer (I usually park high on the ramp, since I'm launching alone it seemed like the best way to avoid incidents) I give it one good hard shove - and the ski, trailer, and jeep all move back about 3" ... that was all it took for the parking brake on the jeep to start to slide, and in slow motion I see the whole mess start easing back into the water.

Luckily I had the good sense to leave my door open, and also managed to compose myself enough to jump back in the jeep and mash on the brake... but there was a good half second there where I was frozen in the water, just watching the events unfold. ;-) It actually wasn't THAT bad - I caught it before the rear bumper was submerged... but now I triple-check my parking brake before I get out... of course, with my luck, I'm now putting so much stress on it that the cable will probably snap one of these times and splash, no more jeep.

If I hadn't made it into the jeep I probably would have just wedged myself under the rear tire and yelled my fool head off until somebody showed up to help. :)
