That sucks, but doesn't have anything to do with the vette...
I used to tow and launch my 2 jetskis with my 300ZX. It was a fantastic tow vehicle. I never had any "incidents" at the ramp, and probably used it dozens of times to launch. Plus it was fun blowing by people on the interstate.
Now I tow my one jetski with my Jeep Wrangler. ALMOST sunk the jeep a couple weeks ago - when you're trying to launch a boat/ski by yourself, it can be quite a challenging task.
So what happened to me? Backed down the ramp, set the parking brake, hopped out to push the ski off the trailer. As I'm shoving the ski off the trailer (I usually park high on the ramp, since I'm launching alone it seemed like the best way to avoid incidents) I give it one good hard shove - and the ski, trailer, and jeep all move back about 3" ... that was all it took for the parking brake on the jeep to start to slide, and in slow motion I see the whole mess start easing back into the water.
Luckily I had the good sense to leave my door open, and also managed to compose myself enough to jump back in the jeep and mash on the brake... but there was a good half second there where I was frozen in the water, just watching the events unfold. ;-) It actually wasn't THAT bad - I caught it before the rear bumper was submerged... but now I triple-check my parking brake before I get out... of course, with my luck, I'm now putting so much stress on it that the cable will probably snap one of these times and splash, no more jeep.
If I hadn't made it into the jeep I probably would have just wedged myself under the rear tire and yelled my fool head off until somebody showed up to help.
