Build your own.
Yeah, I'm sure you probably know more than the engineers at companies who do nothing but design speakers for a living.
If money were no object every sub geek would have a parthenon (or several) under their house + custom built chambers for it to play with.

No, I would not. Unless it were for the cool factor.

But I have something else in mind that equals it.

WHOA

Thats downright blasphemous talk there. Nothing else equals the Parthenon. You dare not say that again lest you get struck down with lightning.......

The kid probably has something in mind, he's pretty on top of things.

But I've got my eyes on you Howard...you can't know everything about everything. One day, you'll slip up...and I'll probably miss it.

If you have any specific questions about the 20-39 pc-plus, just ask. I bought one this summer and can't be happier for music or movies.

The rest of my setup is as follows:

2x Klipsch RF-3 (Front)
1x Klipsch RC-3II (Center)
2x Klipsch RF-35 (Rear)

crappy onkyo 75 w/channel 5.1 receiver (needs to be upgraded...)

Alpine X series is awsome, 15s and 12s are freakin great. I have dual X 12s powered by 2 M1000s, best Ive ever heard personally. Then again, I havent heard any sub other than the ones at the local high end audio store.

Time to test out that amazing AV123 customer service again heh.

I've been talking to Agaboogaboo for a couple months now on all this stuff if anyone has been wondering where I've been in this thread ;)

Gotta get multiple 18's man! :)

Nothing like getting your ass kicked as a part of the movie.

War of the Worlds attack scene (at the ferry) 142 dB at 22 Hz according to the B & K with the mic 23' from the main nest vent. That is fvcking loud. The air moving rolls a tennis ball nicely across the floor and I'm trying to video tape this but the air pressure is making the camera malfunction (tape mistrack). This is insane.

My wife was outside and said it sounded like heavy earth moving equipment was in use behind the house! bwahahahaha!

EDIT: Attack Sound

Fvck train horns. That sound will give anyone nightmares especially when things start flying off the shelves and the lights go out...

Yeah, I knew my budget would limit me to be honest, but I can only spend so much on audio equipment, for now anyway. Maybe sometime in the future I'll have more cash.

One point was brought up and that was how the finished product looks, that will be an important factor for me and so I'm looking for an enclosure already built or something, I imagine that would be the hardest part.

I'll research a bit more and may just build my own enclosure, would be ideal in the summer to build, it's a bit colder now, but I'll still read up on this more and look around. Howard sent me some pretty good PM's and so I have plenty of reading to do before I make a decision.

Thanks guys! :)

Go for the SVS. Great subs and second-to-none customer service.

I'm getting a 20-39PCi in a few weeks...also to add to my Paradigms. Paradigm rocks! :D

i actually prefer SVS's box subs now.... had their cheapest cylinder sub and moved to a pb10 (cylinder was a 12) and the pb10 blows it away.

I bought one of these and to my ears it sounds great. I bought a B-Stock one(the glass panel on top wasn't flush with the top of the box) and got it for $400. It is very similar to the STF-3 but it's ports are on the bottom instead of the rear. It also has a sick looking glass insert on top.

Edit for room specs:

I have this sub in a 40(L)x17(W)x10(H) room and it seems to do fine. My floors are concrete with no carpet so that might help it, I dunno.

Which cylinder was it?
I really like my PB10, but I thought even the PCi cylinders would be a decent step up from it. The PB10 has a very flat response, but I thought output would be significantly better with a 20-39 or 25-31, and extension significantly better with the 16-46.

With a room that big you'll need a serious sub. SVS offer pretty darn good bang for the buck.

Even then that room is awfully big to get good bass without multiple subs.

That's not entirely true if you place it in the right spot.

Yeah, I was leaning towards multiple subs but money also has to be factored in. Keep in mind that I don't need the bass to be felt a lot all the way back, listening position won't be that far back. My bed, desk, etc. are in this room as well with the bed being at the back and desk being in the middle with the TV and audio equipment in the front.

I'm keeping an eye out for a good deal on the 25-31 PC+, this will be used quite a bit for movies with music as well. My music like I said earlier doesn't hit very low notes like any pipe organs or anything so I should be fine with this.

It's not that you won't hear it at listening position or that far back. Its that the room will severely hamper your bass. I think you said something like 16x36. My 2 channel system is in a 22x48 room...difficult to get strong bass without serious tinkering and a lot of power.

Best bet for you is to set a budget. "this is how much I can spend on bass and what I want requirements wise" and maybe find something that can meet that goal.

Yeah, I should probably do that, basically my budget is $600 however I will spend a little more if needed and in terms of requirements ther really aren't any other than I want a lot of bass. That isn't much detail at all so I guess I'm just looking for the best option out there for $600 that has a decent build quality, nothing that's going to be rattling after a little while. I could pick up 4 12" Daytons for around $120 each and put those in the area, but I wouldn't expect much from them to be honest just because of how cheap it is.

My room will only be this size for a certain amount of time, after which I'll be in a smaller area so getting something like 4 dayton's is out of the questions. The SVS seems to be pretty good for the cost and so that might work best all around as well as for the future when I may not have such a large area.

Save your money. Seriously.

There was a used SVS 25-31 PC+ that one of us should have jumped on for $500 shipped.

Yes but what about an amp?

If his budget includes the sub AND the amp $600 doesn't go very far.

Keep in mind I am extremely biased and some would consider me the grand mother of all bass freaks. :p
