Ugh never really cared for powered units. I suppose it's matched ok and 27dBW is OK for entry level products I suppose. If his mains can hit low E with good volume (onsite of source clip with no perceivable distortion at listening position) then a better sub will be needed to make a big difference in that room.

OTOH, with limited power (receiver) on the main speakers, that sub would work well IF he can highpass the mains. (again probably not going to happen with a receiver)

And people think computers are expensive.

Of course good equipment is a much better investment than computer stuff. For example I have Krell and Accuphase amps from the early 90's that perform superbly today. A computer from the early 90's is about as useful as titties on a bull...

sharkeeper, someday I'd like to be at a level where I can afford equipment that you speak of! :)

At the lower frequencies it isn't your hearing you have to worry about! More like make sure the heads (toilets) are in working order! hahaha

At higher frequencies loud SPL's do become an issue. Most people will flinch some quite bad (like shellshocked) with 120 dB SPL snare drum hits. In the 130's and most everyone has their hands on their ears even if just one smack. Like any form of radiation that's generally not good for you the same rule applies for sound:

1) Distance from the source
2) Duration of exposure
3) Shielding. (earplugs-muffs, etc.)

I knew that the lower frequencies weren't as dangerous at a given level as higher frequency stuff, but at 142dB...

So if 20hz hits at 142, what's the rest of the system at?

That was the peak at that particular moment. Movies are all over the place and the processor does show the information when a movie is played as to what has been modified as each movie has its own characteristic. The dynamic range was higher than usual on that one. The cars getting smashed were almost too loud. I felt like I was at the range without my earplugs - it was that intense.

The first attack sound in this movie has a lot of distortion in the center channel. Not quite as bad as Star Wars (1977 copy) but it's noticeable. I'll have to have this worked on so when I show this part the distortion has been removed. The whole track is probably blown at this point.

Which cylinder was it?
I really like my PB10, but I thought even the PCi cylinders would be a decent step up from it. The PB10 has a very flat response, but I thought output would be significantly better with a 20-39 or 25-31, and extension significantly better with the 16-46.

I had the 25-31 CS (retuned to 22hz). The PB10 was a big setup up.

Time to test out that amazing AV123 customer service again heh.

Update in case anyone cares:

Free replacement tweeter just got here and I installed it fixing all issues I was having.

Very positive experience.

Nice Paradigms ;) :D
Hehe, thanks, ended up getting the Paradigm's, the Klipsch sounded too "boomy" and unresponsive if that makes sense. I'm very happy with my Paradigm's, have had them for about 6 days now :)

Should've bought the 100s, I hear they're much better ^_^

hehe, but seriously, congrats!
Yeah, but I wanted to budget in a nice subwoofer as well, wish I had the cash for the center channel though, that would make watching movies superb coupled with an SVS sub. After I get this subwoofer I'm going to lay off buying things other than a laptop for some time, college is just around the corner and the goal is to pay for all living expenses and such myself. (everything except tuiton)

You're still in HS and you have a sound system like that? Did your parents pay for it?

I haven?t read all the posts but I would recommend the Velodyne DD-12 or 15. I think they sound superior to almost all commercially available sub?s out there. The Servo-controlled room equalization system makes setup easy. I just wish I could afford them.

Actually I don't think I did. I asked them about it and described what was happening and they said it was probably defective from the factory.

I took the tweeter out of the cabinet and it sounded great again.

Seens that one of the connections was being pressed against the cabinet and causing the distortion. They said they had seen it happen before and knew what the issue was.
