I did mine a little differently. I opened the sunroof, sat in the middle of the two front seats (on the armrest/console) one leg on either side of the shifter, stuck my head out of the sunroof :p, put it in 4th gear and then pulled it off the gear stick.

If it's never been removed before, it can be a bit of a struggle. Just keep applying force.

I saw a video one time that was very very similar to this. :sneaky:

Yeah. Make sure there's no one around when you're doing this.

All they'll see is a head sticking out of the sunroof, making wierd faces and potentially going red/sweating. And then a sigh of relief.

haha, kind of funny ... a few friends are actually going to Boston for something unrelated, and the seller said he'd be ok with them taking a look at it for me :)

CPO AFAIK is only on previous BMW leases. The UltraCare warranty is a good one offered by BMW. You can go from a basic warranty to the full bumper to bumper I have.

It's pricey but on my M3 it was worth it. I picked up 60,000 miles of coverage (until 86,000) for a little over $5000, interest free over 18 months.

being it's over 50k, you don't qualify for the cheaper rates even if it has remaining factory warranty.

BMW's own warranty is Powertrain Plus. It's not as comprehensive as the UltraCare, but much lower cost. You could call for a quote.

CPO is for any car the dealer sells that they decide to throw a CPO on it AFAIK, not specific to leases.

To clarify. I thought this car was a private party. If it is, the only way to get CPO is it is still under a BMW lease.

Only dealership cars can get CPO otherwise.

Almost all CPO BMWs are lease returns as well.

The aftermarket and extended warranties are better bets IMHO if you are paying for them as a customer.

Looks nice.

Just make sure you get a Pre Purchase Inspection from a local indy

http://www.bimmershops.com/

thanks for that link - it lists one that someone recommended to me. I'm out of factory warranty but have Warranty Direct now. Indys usually do work under 3rd party warranty too correct? Another garage (part of a gas station) said no.

UPDATE :

Okay, going to pick this one up instead...so glad I found it, it's the original color combo I wanted and in 135i!

http://www.skymotorcars.com/web/used/BMW-1-Series-2008-West-Chester-Pennsylvania/1070532/

already put a deposit, picking it up this weekend hopefully.

Have you looked at this in person?? Seriously get a GOOD PPI before buying that car. It looks like the front fenders don't line up around the headlights at all, and the hood looks off too.

Also, it's lowered, since it comes from a dealer you probably won't get the old parts. Don't try to save $2-3k and end up spending $4k to get the car right again.

BMW is a brand where you usually aren't best off looking for the 'best value'... Spending 5% more and getting a known-good vehicle can save you a LOT of money over the life of the car.

They have the factory springs, already did a PPI and checked it out. carfax was clean and clear as well.

What you are seeing is those stupid eyeliner things, they are TAPED on, so I am just going to pull them when I pick it up...also why it looks 'off' with the hood.

I agree that the body panels don't look like they're lining up correctly. If that defect is so obvious in the picture I think it might be something serious.

i think the quarter panel / hood are meant to extend a bit over the light:

Yeah but based on your pic, with the headlight flush over near the fender, that headlight brow thing is like 1/4 to 1/2" thick.

So in the middle, with the headlight cover off, it seems like a LOT of gap to me. It could be factory, but even past that the hood looks a little off to me. It is hard to tell with the pics, but it concerns me enough to where I'd find my own bmw shop and pay them $100 to do a good inspection.

Just for you guys, I asked if he could pull it before I go there...and you can see, they are cheap, they are on some adhesive. The rest of the car lines right up.

AFAIK, you can actually shift the headlights a little bit, correct me if I an wrong though. I don't actually own it yet. But like my A4, I think there is 1/4-1/2" of play to move the headlights in position.
