Small update. Finally figured out the hesitation off idle and finally drove it extensively for a few days. Almost pulled my hair out on the highway when the oil pressure dropped to almost zero. I was almost at shop so I babied it the 3 minutes it took to get off highway. After checking everything I come to the realization that the oil pressure sensor is buggered and giving me low reading after warming up.

After ordering the part I realize its on the opposite side of the car from the USDM engine and not easily replaced like they would be..........

15 minute job turns into whole day job I will put off for a while. I plan on adding an aftermarket sensor in the short term. If I would have replaced it before the swap would have easily taken me 2 minutes....

Good times!!!

Was great to finally get a feel for the car. I will probably chase down some rattles when I get a double din reciever installed.

Next phase is body work. Gonna go the respray route so I dont have to worry about bay and doors etc. Can get away with either a slightly darker or lighter red. Gonna start looking for options. Forgot to mention the car has a small issue. WHEEL HOP LIKE A MOFO. Gotta figure that out.

Wont get to start sanding for a few weeks.

lucky...3 mins of driving on a real 0 psi oil pressure would have made for another build thread.

crazy heavy is solved with crazy horsepower, sadly most are running around in a copy panel kit in primer with enough HP to pull a 18 sec 1/4.

hmmm. skid marks. From stopping or launching?
Im assuming launching.

WOW! Looks beastly...well done. I'm so glad it doesn't look like this!!

Those rims are naaasty.

1 OF A KIND LOW MILEAGE 300ZX w/ 18 WHEELS, GROUND EFFECTS, LAMBO-STYLE DOORS, CUSTOM ALPINE AUDIO w/ FLIP DOWN TV/REAR CAMERA & DUAL 10 SUBWOOFER SYSTEM!!!

Everything about that screams ADDED WEIGHT to me.

But wait theres more, not only do you get 500 lbs of rice with that car you also get a set of stake knives..

The um skid marks happened the day we worked on a Lingenfelter TT Vette for a friend of a friend. The left side of the shop was a tad wet so when I launched out I made a small noise with the anemic power I have in my Boxster. Well the guy thought I was showing him up as he was about to leave so he launched from inside the shop. Dummy picked up a rock and launched into the shop about 4 feet from my head. Sounded amazing and terrifying at the same time as the rock took a half inch chunk out out the concrete.

Small update. Trying to isolate a small vacuum leak in the Z last few days. I still have high idle issues after all the usual adjustments and tests of IIAV and the myriad of hoses under this hood. Car drives nice on the highway now and finally feels like a reliable car.

can't argue with a good price.

Think these will look better on my LS400 VIP project?

not really serious but I do remember seeing them on a LS400 once.

FOUND PIC ONLINE

I like to look at choices by considering my end goal. If the 300ZX is supposed to be a really fun driver, then whatever was inexpensive and lightweight would be my wheel of choice (e.g. Enkei RFP01's). The 350z Touring rims weight something like 22lbs each, which while not super-heavy, aren't really beneficial to the vehicle's handling.

I think they would look better on the ZX, but it really depends on your targets for the 300ZX and the LS400. Maybe you could polish the Touring rims and then use them on the VIP project?

haha I've been digging into a 250 PAGE thread on supramania.com about wheel fitments for the MKIII. Sooooo many wheels and fitment considerations have ran through my head last weekend. :)

I really should read this thread more considering my last ~15 years of TT Z32 ownership experiences, but yeah those oil pressure sensors aren't super reliable. Nothing to get super freaked out about.

I have wasted way too much time researching my rim choices lately as well.

Great to meet you! Wish you lived in Indy. I have stubborn high idle issues STILL

Like these for sale on CL sort of near me?

Hmm could work. Saw a few guys on clublexus. Was sort of thinking about getting 18s or even 17s and getting the luxury megan coils and massaging the inside of the fenders a bit. I had this ucf10 before and just had the guy I sold it to sell it back to me after he ignored it for a few years.

TBH mate, those wheels appear to boxy and straight for the curves of the z32. I'd prefer the original wheels over those.
On the other hand they would look good on the ls400 with a little less gap.

Yep those are it you need to put slightly larger rubber on them to look good and spacers I had a set of those on my ls400 when I had it liked them alot

whats the hubs on a 300zx?

aren't those lexus IS300 5x114.3?
Ya

I saw a few pics of them on club lexus and thought it looked pretty good. Did you have it lowered at all? My new LS is due for some suspension but thankfully its not equipped with air.. Trying to keep the ls real cheap since its just gonna be my loaner. With a little bit of style.

Wow im thread crapping in my own thread!

About the Z. Trying to decide if I want to go immediately to the dual intake setup vs staying with just pop charger. I see Ash spec lowered the price of their Doolz line and is available for 200 bucks on their site.

http://www.ashspecz.com/ashspec/doolz/doolz.htm

Less than half the price of a dual pop charger setup.

Choices choices.

I was considering the Stillen Gen3 intake since it seems to be the only intake system with any significant power increase. For the most part I think that intake systems on NA cars is snakeoil especially if the ECU adjusts to the additional air but with a blower more air is always a bonus.

For the price it sounds like the Doolz intake would be the best, esp. if the pressure drop is lower.

I like the touring rims on the Z, though a small part of me is agreeing with Fuzzy. Overall, I'd consider it a good upgrade, maybe not the final one, but just fine for now. The front looks like it could use some small spacers so all the wheels sit flush with the car.

BTW, how much does that garage space go for? My friends and I are planning a vacation house and also looking for some shop space to work on our projects. It's been really awesome to plan out so far. :)
