I remember hearing about Frozen Synapse. Can't recall what it was about though.

KT

Frozen Synapse is a top down strategy game, where you control a set number of units (riflemen, assault/shotgunners, grenade launcher, rocket launcher, sniper) and have to eliminate the enemy troops or complete other objectives. The key to the game is that you give your orders for all of your troops and can simulate what the opponent MAY do. So you control both sets of troops, and try and plan your troops to react to any possible scenario.

Then you hit go, and 15 seconds goes by without you being able to control your troops beyond what you told them to do at the start. The closest thing I've heard in describing it is like playing Chess but where both players take a turn at the same time. Tons of fun.

Ah right, that sounds familiar. Interesting. Thanks.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution. A great game with a easily top 10 game soundtracks I ever heard. I replayed the game at least 4-5 times and sometimes I randomly go to youtube to listen to the songs.

I was reading the thread again, looking at the suggestions made, AT members know their stuff. No trash recommendations, some of the games I didn't personally enjoy but I still appreciate them and there is merit to each of those recommendations.

I vote to sticky this thread, so we can find hidden gems or at least, make clearing our Steam backlogs much easier.

Totally agree with you on this. Sound track is of high quality. Last time I listened to this was when I played a game of Twilight Imperium 3rd edition (board game). It was fitting!

I think I actually own two copies of Fallout 3, but I've never been able to get it run. Have not tried since my last upgrade though, so maybe it would work now.

Some stuff I have not heard of recommended above; very cool. Thanks and keep 'em coming!

KT
Easiest way is to find the Gopher videos on Youtube and follow them. That will give you a stable, good looking game. You'll want all the DLC though, as many mods require them. Both are bears to get running stable and looking good, but you are rewarded with hundreds of hours of play each. If you get only one, New Vegas is most people's preference. You may wish to try Fallout 3 though if you already have it. With either one, be sure and make it purty, stable, and challenging before you play, as neither are purty, stable, or challenging (other than getting them to run for sixty seconds) out of the box.

The first F.E.A.R. is not to be missed, as are both Metros. The STALKER games are also exceptionally good - although at the least, Clear Sky needs to be extensively modded to be worth playing.

Ok, just thought I would update where things are here. Still have about five days or so until I can actually play anything, but I wanted to see where we are at. Feel free to add anything new or vote for something already posted!

Games in green I have already played (not that it matters but just thought I would indicate it).

Deus EX: Human Revolution - damn good game
Defense Grid 1 and 2.....*still need to get two but everything I've heard just as good as the first*
Orcs Must Die and Orcs Must Die 2...both just a lot of fun tower defense games..
Wasteland 2 - seriously a must if you love old school wasteland or fallout games....
Shadowrun Returns very solid Shadowrun game.....but even better is the massive amount of player made stories that you can run after.
ShadowRun DragonFall - one of the best rpgs I've played in a long time. Story far better than the first game - seriously if you are a fan of rpgs and ShadowRun....its a must have...:)

Murdered: Soul Suspect - about 9 hours long; loved the story as it was very different mystery adventure game....

New Gauntlet that can be found for ten pounds.......its freaking Gauntlet!!! co-op madness......

I think Total Annihilation actually has 3 votes, if you count the posts 'endorsing it'.

Faster than Light some hate some love. I prefer roguelike SOTS: The Pit.

Prison Architect just got a huge update. If you own it and havn't played in a while it's worth revisiting now I think.

You guys have almost convinced me to buy this game and I'm not even the one looking for something new!

Seems to be something wrong with your vote collection - both Dumac and I suggested Path of Exile and it's not even on the list.

Ah right; I typed everything out in the schedule one by one, then just counted the duplicates but I see it listed twice there now.

Sorry, been working too much; brain's a little foggy.

Hey now, no messing with my poor little brain. I've actually wanted to play that one for a while so would be totally fine if it won, but I'm not rigging the numbers!

I'll add a vote for Total Annihilation. The soundtrack is amazing, and I still remember the day I got it, installing it, and playing the first mission. The moment combat started and everything started blowing up I was absolutely mesmerized.
