Phone rings. How many before you hang up?

When calling someone how many times do you usually let the phone ring before hanging up and deciding they aren't there? Say it's someone's home phone and they aren't expecting a call as far as you know. What about a cell phone how many then?

As many times as it takes before I get their answering machine or voice mail.

No kidding. Does this guy live in 1939 or something?

I tested it recently, I seem to hear 2 to 3 rings in my cellphone before the person I'm calling rings once.

So 1.

I usually choose to too but believe it or not not everyone has either. I hat it when it rings like 7-8 times and you realize there is no answering service.

I let it ring til voice mail picks up. My daughters used to drive me crazy because if their friends didn't pick up on the first ring they'd hang up. Their friends would do the same when they called. I used to call it short attention span theater.

That depends, is it 3 AM?

WTF are you doing calling anyone at 3AM? 3AM calls scare me if I'm not expecting them. You always feel they must be bad news about a loved one or something.

Don't worry Hillary Clinton will be there to answer the phone.

I usually just let it ring 4 to 5 times. Depending on how bad I want to talk to them, I may wait until the recording comes on that says they're unreachable. For most people that's two minutes of rings. I put it on speaker and go on about my business.

i usually do 3-4. if it's some girl your stalking then let it ring a 100 times. if noone answers, hangup and dial again and let it ring another 100 times.

rinse and repeat.

Yeah, a lot of people are dumb because they waited for only a few rings than hang up. They have to account for international switchings, or even just a slow switch; sometimes the caller will hear four rings before the people being called hear one. More often than not, I find myself reaching for my phone with one ring to see a private number missed call.
