Fox news called it a perfect game, but it sounded like the anchor was just ignorant as to what a perfect game was.. So.. was it a perfect game? If so, wow...

Perfect game = 27 up and 27 down.

ack, wasn't this covered in a thread all by itself? I think you can still face only 27 batters and not have a perfect game (ie, a walk and double play or an error and guy thrown out trying to go for two). I guess it depends on what you mean by "27 down"....

yeah. but i see what hector is saying and it is possible. pitcher could ruin his perfect game by walking somebody, but say on the next batter, he picks him off at 1st base. he can face 27 batters total, and still not have that perfect game. just a no-hitter, since he let that man on base.
She was just sensationalizing the story like Fox does with all their stories.Originally posted by: m2kewl

the outs could still be straight (ie, consecutive), but it wouldn't be a perfect game.

quick question: Would striking someone out, but the catcher drops the ball on the third strike, allowing the batter to run to first... but he is still thrown out keep the pitcher from having a perfect game? How is that scored anyways?
yep, your correct, it is a strike out.Originally posted by: m2kewl

that's still a perfect game. perfect game = no runner ever reaches first base due to errors, hits, etc.
in your scenerio, it's a strike out, throw out (pretty sure)

If there's a walk, error, hit, or anything but an out, it's not a "consecutive" out, now is it?

how is that not consecutive? I would consider 27 consecutive outs to mean that each of the 27 players was out before the next player batted. Sounds like a pretty fair definition of consecutive to me.

I'm glad Millwood is doing great for the Phillies... but the trade has totally revolutinized the Braves team. I think they're going to go all the way this year with the talent that they picked up from that trade!![]()
Go Braves...![]()

yeah I realize that, but I'm still sort of in shock over it. They said they wouldn't get anything for him if they let him walk... how about a year's worth of great pitching? They don't even have room for Estrada. Now, if Estrada turns into the next Yogi Berra, then I'll go eat a piece of paper with my words on it.
