Phenom II 940 (deneb) @ 3DMARK @ Everest and a bit of OC

Only Engineering Sample. Don't represent the final cpu. (oc ability, etc)

Martimus: These results are better than what we expected.

Why? The blog shows only one synthetic CPU benchmark and I'm wondering why it's CPU Queen, one of the few benchmarks that nehalem did not win vs penryn? Maybe it's really just coincidence, though.

I want to see the CPU tested :-/

Well, sites like firing squad, hardocp, anandtech etc have a history of validated information. That's why I cannot in good conscience accept scores off a forum or blog site.

Interesting......adjusted for clock speed (3.25 vs 3.0), Deneb is ~28% quicker than Agena in CPU Queen. That's my 9950BE vs the chart posted in the link.
We'll know more about the performance gains closer to launch. Until then we wait and speculate.😀

Appreciate the tests, OP, but is there any chance you can update the post with comparisons to current CPUs? I am not really familiar with those benchmarks and scores and so I don't have a good frame of reference to judge your results.

Taken from alternative link in the OP.

Cpu name: Phenom II 940 (core Deneb, AM2+) @ 3GHz
Motherboard: M3A79-T Deluxe (AMD 790FX+SB750 )
Memory: 4096 Mb CSX 1066MHz (DDR2)
Graphics: Gigabyte 4870X2 2048Mb
Os: Win Vista 64 Service Pack 1
Drivers: Motherboard bios: 0602, Catalyst 8.10, MB chipset 3.0.642.0

Crysis Warhead: DX10 high, shaders very high, 1920x1200x32, AA off

Results:

Average:47fps
Max: 84fps
Min: 36fps

A Q6600 can score 25875 @ 3.6ghz and 24377 @ 3.4ghz. That should give you an idea how they compare on CPU Queen.

Its too bad they did not mention what version of Everest they were using, because the number always changes between versions.

I like to see it compared to something like i7 or Q9xxx series 775 cpus.

The review of Phenom II is here, it is about 8% faster than Phenom, so it is meant to compare to Core 2 Quad. Core i7 is currently untouchable in terms of overall performance.

thanks for the benchmarks. Looks like there's a 10% improvements from Phe1 to Phe2. But Phe2 can already do 3.2 on their OCed version that's good news. However, I don't know if it will be enough to touch C2Qs, not even thinking about i7s.

I know no benchmark score is the "end-all be-all" of performance; the 3DMark Vantage CPU score was not very impressive.

Definitely holding my judgement until we can see more meaningful benches...

I THINK THIS IS NOT THE RETAIL C2 DENEB CHIP, ITS C0 CHIP THAT WAS SHOWN BEFORE.. , THAT IS WHAT I HAD READ AT EXTREME SYSTEM FORUMS

Thanks for confirming what the OP/benchmarker already stated in this thread:

I hear you there! 😛

I just want to know when we can expect the folks who like to leak this stuff to finally have retail steppings in hand. I'm really not interested in leaked results of non-retail steppings, too much can change in the stepping iterations. Show me leaks of retail deneb stepping and then I'll be interested.

Otherwise for all I care you could show me the 3Dmark06 score of overclocked duct-tape and it would be just as relevant to the scores I can expect from a 3GHz retail Deneb in Jan.
