Southern/Hong Kong type chinese food is my favorite. Most popular authentic chinese restaurant in the US is this type.

The problem is most Americans don't like eating cat and dog. :(

I think you're talking about korean food.

diaf ignorant fvck.

Uh, both Koreans and Chinese (in Guangdong and Hong Kong at least) eat dog. I've never heard of cat being widely consumed though. In Korea, it's called kaegogi. If you travel in the rural parts of Guangdong, you'll see dogs everywhere. Those aren't pets -- they are livestock (also used for their fur).

Never tried either version of dog and never plan to. I think I had rat once in Spain. :disgust:

Almost any Italian restaurant will be better than Olive Garden and Taco Bell damn sure isn't good Mexican or even Tex-Mex. Why would you think things would be any different for Chinese? Want to find a good restaurant, find out where the locals eat. If you follow names, chains and tourists you'll never get a good meal.

great rule to live by...or at least, eat by :)

Houstons is a fine chain. Cheesecake Factory ain't bad either

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Also, take a look at the locations of those with positive responses. It says a lot.

We've been there a few times. I like it a lot. It's a great place to go with a big group of people since everything is in large portions.

I disagree. PF Chang's is awesome!

you have obviously never eaten authentic chinese food before.

Sure I have. But I like PF Chang's because their food is very tasty, presentation is nice and it's a nice upscale place with good service. It has nothing to do with whether or not it's authentic. I don't give a rat's hairy ass if it's authentic or not.

a lot of ppl like, NOT because its chinese. but because there's a unique taste to it. I dont like it cus i dont like much chinese food.
But for my friends who do, its the spices, i believe.

for all the ppl who talk about authenticity, do u always go to a shady as5 "authentic" places to eat, or go where u like the food? the food doesnt necessarily have to be authentic for u to like it.
Most of the menu in chinese/indian/thai/italian/anything has food which originated from there or has a flavor of its country, but day-to-day food is NOT whats usually served. otherwise it'll just be a boring restaurant with nothing different to offer from home food.

If you like Chinese Food, you will probably think PF Changs is the most overrated restaurant on the face of the planet. I had heard nothing but good things as well, but I consider myself a Chinese Food Coneissuer. It was by far some the most overrated food I've ever had, and wouldn't even rank in the top 10 of Chinese food restaurants I've eaten at.

EDIT: I'll just add that anyone who thinks PF Changs is really that good, hasn't lived much or been to many other Chinese food restaurants. It has nothing to do with the "Americanized" dishes, it has to do with taste - and the fact that SOOO many people think its the bestest of the best Chinese food proves that people have poor taste. I see 100 new VW Beetles every day, its still one of the ugliest, nastiest and overhyped cars on the road. Somehow things start snowballing and become hugely popular even though its complete Sh!t. That is PF Changs

You are over analyzing it. If you are looking for authentic Chinese food or comparing it to that you are wasting your time. PF Changs is great food. Is it great Chinese food? Probably not...but I don't think it is trying to pass itself off as authentic Chinese food. Even if it is who cares? It's good!

I guess if you're Chinese and looking for authentic Chinese food you will be disappointed but to argue that people who like it have poor taste is just childish not to mention WRONG!

God, some of you people get your panties in a wad over the dumbest sh!t.

First of all I'm not Chinese, and I have no clue what "Authentic" chinese food is. Second, I specifically said that it has nothing to do with it being "Americanized". I was simply giving the OP my opinion. The fact remains that PF Changs is completely overrated and is not good food, Chinese or otherwise. If you want good Chinese food, you don't go to PF Changs, and if you want good food you don't go to PF Changs. Its not that bad or anything, but for the price, hype and insane attention it gets - it should be a lot better. I would compare it to any other normal national chain of restaurants, Bennigans, Applebee's and the like. But people around these parts hype it like its the best food on earth and I think its annoying. And so yes, people who do believe that usually have poor taste. It could also be because they don't know any better, they're used to eating McDonalds and so PF Changs is a god send. But if you are looking for spectacular food to match the hype, your going to the wrong place.

I'll lay this to rest by saying if I want good food, i'll get steak from Houston's or House of Prime Rib or something. I'm going here for the ambience for a business meeting. With that said, all I wanted to know was what was good on the menu. These people wouldn't be in business if their food tasted like ass.

What's up with this culinary-elitness bs...

I would stop with just the gloating. But frankly, I'd go so far as to feel that you owe me an apology. ;)

Its not like I'm "elite", I just knew better and was simply trying to help you out by warning you. I'm glad you didn't heed my advice though, now the rest of the board will have more people to steer them away.

i've never been to pf changs.. i hear it sucks ass though... but i want to take this time to pimp out my uncle's restaurant for those reading this thread in san ramon, ca or the surrounding areas..

as a little background, i don't know if any of you from san francisco have tried out "five happiness" on geary street.. around 6th right by the kfc across from the kaiser.. anyway, my uncle's dad owns that place, and he used to cook there.. he now owns his own restaurant in san ramon.. called... yah, you guessed it.. yangs... they call their food "modern chinese cuisine" which basically means no weird sh!t like tripe and entrails... he's a fantastic chef, and i would say this even if he wasn't my uncle..

prices are about the same as pf changs.. but man.. they're food is to die for.. my uncle can cook like no other.. if you go, the appetizers i would recommend are the seabass rolls, or the crab puffs.. as an entree, you must try the braised sea bass... it's seriously one of the best things i've ever tasted... go.. check it out.. the website iswww.yangsrestaurant.com

they just opened the place this past weekend.. ribbon cutting with the mayor and everything.. place is business casual like.. i wore a t-shirt and jeans, but then again, i know the owner.. very comfortable.. great place to take a date i think... go try it out, you will not regret it!
