OK, was I the only one who saw the look on Dan Marino's face during the postgame show on Sunday when Boomer Esiason called out Peyton Manning for choking in the clutch, and labeled him the 21st century Dan Marino? Probably one of the most unintentionally funny moments in anchor desk history. Shannon Sharpe almost had to hold Marino back, and for the rest of the segment he had the most uncomfortable crooked "smile" I ever saw.
For everything else, there's Mastercard.

I saw that. Marino looked pissed. He made it clear that he did make it to a Superbowl.
Yeah, Boomer doesn't even qualify to be Marino's jock strap holder. It's not his fault he never had a running game or defense...at all.

Come on, we all know Manning is an overrated quarterback the media hypes because they want a white guy to suceed.

Houston is a horrible team at 7-9?
Minnesota a horrible team, making the playoffs, beating the Pack, which is a "mediocre team?"
Phokus, you are a complete idiot.
I agree, all you ATOTers were picking Indy by a LANDSLIDE. Link back to the thread with the predictions, I said no way in hell Manning will overcome Belichick in New England, not this time nor any future attempt in his career (vs a playoff Belichick team). It's like Pedro trying to beat the Yankees, one team will always have his number.Originally posted by: NL5

The steelers could be called the most overrated and undeserving team of their record this season.
Their schedule was a cake walk, though people will tout them as an amazing team. I can't wait to see the tones change then the patriots beat them.
Yep! This board was overwhelmingly touting Indy - and remember how almost everyone said USC was gonna get destroyed. I think all rthe geeks on here should stick to computers (runs and hides.....)
They got outcoached too. Yes the players have to make the big plays, but don't forget that Belichick knows how to get into Mannings head with different looks on D to shut him down.Originally posted by: DevilsAdvocate

He's not overrated. Manning captains a precision offense, that under the right conditions, is unstoppable. They lost - on the road - in a snow strom - to a superior Patriots team.
If you dno't understand how hard it is to win on the road in the playoffs, especially in snowy, frigid Foxboro, you don't know enough about football to intelligently offer an opinion.
Plus scoring touchdowns against any team is no easy feat. He's 5 times the quarterback that Brady is. Brady just has the luxury of a greater team. Without Manning the Colts are horrible. Without Brady the Pats still win. IMHO.
I don't think Manning is 5x the QB Brady is but if you were to ask Brady himself he'd say Manning is a better QB.
Lots of QB's can play like all-Americans with two tightends blocking and the highest paid O line in the league, it's almost like practice...till you meet a real D. That's what separtes the good from the great IMHO.
... and that "team concept" is what is lost on the OP.
The Pats are a more complete team, with 2 Super Bowl rings in the last 3 years. That means, come playoff time, they know how to get the job done.
The casual fan who does not know crap about football (like the OP) usually singles out a single player, like Manning, as the cause for a team winning or losing.
Not true.
There are 11 men on the field on offense, and there are 11 men on the field for defense. Failure at any position can be catastrophic (missed block, blown coverage, etc.)
The quarterback receives a disproportionate amount of the glory in the NFL. When he wins, he gets all the credit. When he loses, he takes all the blame.
Such is life for an NFL QB, I guess.
Peyton's offensive line (you know, the big guys who block up front for the QB, RB, and other players coming out of the offensive backfiled) got crushed by the Pats D line. Payton was under pressure all game long.
The Pats secondary (the guys who run around in the defensive backfield, tackling, and trying to stop the Colts receivers from making catches for big yardage) put on a masterful performance.
To say that Peyton is overrated is a disservice to him, and completely ignores the failures of the rest of the Colt team, which sucked on Sunday.
The Colts got outplayed, and this thread has no merit.
So Manning is 5X the QB that Brady is? What are you smoking? 2 words: 2 rings. Manning is definitely a better QB, but Brady isn't 1/5 the QB that Manning is. You don't just win 2 Superbowls by making throws with your eyes closed, and many will agree that QB is the most important part of a football team. Will the ratio drop to 1/10 if Brady wins number 3 this year? lmaoOriginally posted by: jst0ney

Minnesota is a horrible team. The Packers were not much better this year. Face it, the NFC was awful this year. The only very good team is the Eagles, and the Falcons are above average. Everyone below those two are mediocre to awful. It's true. Just because an 8-8 Minn team which couldn't beat the freaking Redskins when their playoff lives depended on it manged to back into the playoffs thanks to the overall ineptitude of the rest of the league does not make them good.

Only a moron would make a brady = dilfer argument. Would dilfer even have a chance at 3 superbowl rings?
Brady definitely isn't Dilfer, and winning the super bowl could just be a fluke. Brady leading the Pats to a possible third superbowl in 4 years proves that he could be our generation's version of Joe Montana (did you see some of those deep passes vs Pitt? Incredible.)Originally posted by: PlatinumGold

as most people have already posted, only a moron would call Manning the most overrated qb ever.
btw, any intelligent individual would see i wasn't saying dilfer = brady, moron. i was saying winning the super bowl doesn't really prove anything.
