Metric makes it easier to relate different quantities of measurements.

For example:
Inch, foot, yard, mile..... not easy to relate or translate 25 ft to yards or miles if you're every trying to compare or gauge relative lengths

mm, cm, m, km.... oh 20 m = 0.02 km = 2000 cm that gives me a good visual of the scale difference and i didn't need a calculator to do it.

Why is the Metric system so much better? Why not binary?

Seriously, why is some system based on 10's so much better? Because people can't do math?

It is a more intuitive system and it can be more convenient to work with. If you work in manufacturing, chances are you use the metric system at least some times. I'll tell you what though, having to go back and forth between the two is a real pain in the ass sometimes.
Sometimes reverse engineering parts can be a nightmare. The part was designed in Italy, but its being used in a US machine, so which holes are metric and which are imperial? You get to inspect them and figure it out.
Are the hole spacings metric or imperial? Again, figure it out or the damn thing won't fit right. Parts that are half metric and half imperial are a true pain in the ass. I'd rather just stick to one or the other, and the metric system is what everyone else uses.

All I know is that at least they keep my money logical. 10 cents is a dime, 100 cents is a dollar, 10 dimes is a dollar. So fucking logical! You've got to be retarded to think otherwise. The dollar says you're wrong.

What about pieces of 8? Or 2-bits? Or the 2-dollar bill?

And what of the nickle, quarter, half-dollar, $5 bill, $20 bill, $50 bill? They just don't exist?

Lets see...1/16, 3/32, 9/16, 7/8, 25/32....OR....move a fucking decimal. Your pick.

Go join the other retard in the corner, they're all base ten.

But they're all discrete units of measure within the system, fucking up your base-10-centric measurement. I can measure wealth in $20 bills just as easily as I could in pennies. A $20 bill is decidedly NOT base 10, and the unit of measure is completely arbitrary. Who's the retard now?

Wow, it's no wonder you're confused, you don't even know what base ten means.

I'm sure no one reads this far down, but base12 or base16 makes a lot more sense than base10. From there its choosing between easy factoring and easy binary conversion.

In binary, octal, or hex, that IS moving a decimal.

8, 16, and 32, are all powers of two.

Do you work with both systems on a regular basis? Just asking, because if you did i'm not sure you'd be saying that.

I hate metric. The units are good for conversion but they are less practical. I don't want to have to use decimals to get a meaningful measurement.

But the Celsius scale can fuck off... 32c is not hot... 90f is

Fahrenheit forever!

be an englishman, use C when it's cold and F when it's hot so each side sounds more impressive.

0C sounds colder than 32F and 89.6F sounds hotter than 32C

Quebec has moved to metric time. It makes for some tricky scheduling with the rest of the world.

Which caused things like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimli_Glider

Now imagine that for the USA as a whole. :sneaky:

Also yes we changed, but for many, many things we still use Imperial. Or even both systems at the same time. For instance, I know how much I weigh in pounds, but not in KG. I know how tall I am in inches (6'3") AND sort-of in meters (1.92 ish).

I really wish we'd change. After using imperial units all my life I still have to look up unit conversions I don't do frequently. I used SI unit in science classes for a couple years decades ago. I can still flawless convert any normal units. SI units are just a much better system.

Because 20 centimeters is not base 10, according to your retardedness... Just stop dude.

Not if you're using 20 centimeters as the basis of your measurement, and all things that you measure henceforth will be based on your arbitrary minimum of 20 centimeters.

I shall call it the "tweenimeter". And 3 tweenimeters shall be called the seximeter. And so on and so forth.

Congratulations, you have now been taught where and how fundamental units of measurement have been created. (Hint: They're ALL arbitrary, including metric. Just because the zeroes line up in certain places to make your mathematically challenged brain not work so hard doesn't make them any less arbitrary.)

Alright, someone need to take the rum away from this dude, and remove his hooks. The 2 dollar bill is still base ten you weetot.

A $2 bill is not an increment of 1/10th of the next magnitude. People don't measure in increments of 2 centimeters.

Base 10 is no better or worse than any other system. "Everybody else is doing it" is argument of convenience. It's not because one system is better than another.

And saying to "just move a decimal" gets back to my first comment about people being bad at math.
