here's a tidbit:

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals launched an animated video on its Web site Monday that depicts the three Olympic mascots ? Miga, Quatchi and Sumi ? chasing down a baby seal with a club, then standing over the animal?s blood-soaked body in the next scene.
PETA?s spoof is the latest in its international campaign to stop the annual seal slaughter off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, the group said.

In January, PETA launched a spoof of the 2010 logo, depicting the iconic inukshuk clubbing a seal, with the Olympics rings dripping blood. Lawyers from the U.S. Olympic Committee asked PETA last month to stop using the logo on merchandise being sold online.

PETA is also urging a boycott of Canadian maple syrup.

oh nooooes!!!!!!!!! they are boycotting teh maple syrup.

what a bunch of morons.

Who cares. PETA is a joke. The only time I ever hear anything about PETA is when people post news stories found around the internet. Maybe if we ignore PETA they'll just go away. Like that socially dejected mouth breather everybody ignores at lunch time and recess.

What I find moronic is supporting a barbaric practice like clubbing baby seals to death.

Good exercise too. They should get local schools involved. Childhood obesity is a serious issue.

Those baby seals aren't going to club themselves.

The best maple syrup comes from Vermont anyway. Canadian syrup is all about quantity, less about quality - sort of like Miller beer.

Sorry, it just doesn't. Quebec is a huge producer and exports almost all of their product. Their goal is huge quantities for export, not quality. If you want high quality producers you need to look at small producers in the US or UK.

most Quebecois aren't like that. They are too busy making awesome maple syrup for the world to enjoy.

that and poutine.

Since Ingrid Newkirk (president of PETA) said: "Even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we'd be against it." I haven't put much stock into what PETA has to say .

I love to make fun of Canada as much as anyone else, but my hatred for PETA trumps even that. This is retarded.
