Blame Burger King and McDonalds for selling double cheese burgers for 99 cents. Meat and cheese in one product that really is supporting the dairy and meat industry.

pretty awful.

makes you want to do more than simply stop eating production meat. eating meat is fine I guess, so long as the animals are humanely raised outside of factory production facilities. What I think PETAs most limiting weakness is that they want people to stop eating meat altogether. They need to start pushing better, more humane treatment of animals. I think a movement to lower meat consumption and demand farm-raised animals would be more effective than trying to win over or promote vegetarianism, half of which can't maintain a no-meat lifestyle for long anyway.
the situation is bothersome, but so are the movements against it. I lean toward seafood.

Not true at all. Do you know anything about peta? They were working with KFC to make their facilitis more humane, etc. They gave them a list of things that needed to be adjusted etc. They aren't ALL against the eating of meat, but this kind of treatment, etc, is completely ridiculous.

Personally, I'm not really particular how my food is treated before it gets to me...as long as it's tasty and disease free. Hell, I'd eat a human steak if it was prepared correctly, it's just meat.

There are also many slaughter houses hiring animal psychiatrists to keep the animals calm....

Bottom line is their death in the slaughterhouse is a lot quicker than if we had yahoos running around hunting.

I eat meat so I am not going to be hypocritical. Most people are though...they bish and moan about 'The inhumanity! the insanity! my lord!!!!!', but still eat that steak friday night.

You seem to have some guilt about being one of those at the top of the food chain.

I believe notfred hit on it earlier, it is all about the money. People say, "oh this is horrible, the animals suffer so badly" and while this is true, it is that way b/c people demand low prices. Therefore the businesses do this to sell the food to you at a good cost to avoid you saying "oh this is horrible, my food costs so much and my family and I are suffering b/c we don't have money any more". So you choose. That being said I would pay more for my meat if I could be assured that the animals were treated more humanely. However many people (myself included) find it so much easier to go to Safeway or Albertson's and buy there rather than trying to find some farmers' market or health food store. So don't preach at me out of one side of your mouth and rip apart that medium rare rib-eye with the other side.

Sorry, but I have to agree with PETA to a certain degree.... (I draw the line at "if you are drinking milk, you are supporting the veal industry")

They need to continue to improve slaughterhouse conditions...

But, til then, I feel very justified in humanely shooting my meat :) Clean shot, quick death.

I used to work in a chicken plant as a 'picker' (the guys who load the birds on to trucks) and I can vouch for the fact that the chickens are raised in that kind of atmosphere. I didn't even complete a whole day. I caught a ride on the second truck out of the farm because I couldn't bring myself to abuse the animals like that.

The chicken plant is one of the few 'industries' still around in our area, and I know many people who work there. Everything relating to chickens in that video is true, at least from what I have seen firsthand and heard from many friends who have worked at the chicken plant or continue to do so.

You have to consider that a bird that is fed all kinds of chemicals to bulk up will get some blocking of the arteries just like a fat human would. Obviously, some birds will not totally bleed to death before being put in the scalding tanks.

This video has really made me consider going vegetarian. I pretty much live off vegetables and pasta anyway.. the only tough part would be giving up dairy products :/ I love cheese.

Be a selective vegetarian. I know a few that will only eat fish.

If you buy organic cheese, it isn't so bad. Hell, you can even buy organic meat if you wish.

Let me tell you that you will be amazed by the difference in taste. I am a firm believer that the treatment that the animals go through directly affects the taste of the meat.. Not to mention all the hormones and antibiotics.

Animals rip each other apart in the wild every day, but that's ok.

I think the industry could afford to spend an extra buck to make it a little better on the animals.

I don't get it, vegetarians still kill animals whenever they eat, so what is so bad about the video? And why stop at chickens?!?! Bugs can feel pain too, but it's okay to slowly liquidify their organs with bug spray?!?!
