My chest is weak as hell. I could never bench over my bodyweight. When I was working out steady, I was 5'7 160lbs. I started out doing 115lbs x 10reps x 3sets and i ended up at 160 lbs x 10 reps x 4 sets.

How can i get my chest stronger? Mind you, I dont want to get HUGE. If i have the option of choosing between being cut as hell and benching 180x10x4 or being HUGE (no definition) and benching 250x4x3, I'd pick the first one.

btw, im 145 lbs now

Eh? At your peak you could have easily lifted 200lbs I bet.

But yeah, i didnt know ATOT was so strong. I thought my 190 was decent (now probably 200). Granted I do bench only once a week so it isnt big priority.

Not trying to threadcrap here, but what's the deal with the bench press? How did it become the benchmark (pun intended) of strength?

I haven't done a bench press in probably 15 years. I'll be I could ride all you musle-bound fellas off my wheel though (bicycle, duh). 😀

IIRC, many consider the squat to be the benchmark of strength.

The Gold Standard
MP 1x
BP 1.5x
Back squat 2x
Deadlift 2.5x
(They are multiple of bodyweight.)

Any guy being able to do all of that in a single session is a monster and seriously well rounded by any guys definition of strong.

Koing
Then what is the Platinum standard because I've already got the Gold beat. 😉 No but seriously, I've got that covered pretty easily, but I'm not sure about the deadlifts. I don't think I've ever done deadlifts. I've done straight leg deadlifts.

You can MP bodyweight? Thats very strong. I've not met many guys that could Military Press bodyweight. More so the guys over 220lbs!

Try and Snatch 1.5x bodyweight then or Clean and Jerk 1.5-2x bodyweight 😛

Koing

MP of your bodyweight isn't too too bad...I dunno if I could do it more than maybe four times tops, but it's at least possible, heh. It does help being light, though, which is nice.

Never tried snatch/clean & jerk/deadlift, though, so I'd more than likely not hit those numbers.

I have seen the pics of you guys, and believe you because you guys are not the type to lie, I am talking about the n00bs coming in here saying they are 160lbs benching 235x5 and they are only 16. 🙂

I'm 210, and I know I can do 225. Haven't done it in awhile though. I've never done the snatch or the clean and jerk.

I've got a pinched nerve in my back and it's fvcking up the right side of my body now. I can barely do 25lbs dumbell curls with my right arm, but with my left I can do ~50-60. It's REALLY pissing me off. I've had this happen to me before, it's nothing I've done wrong, it's just some sh!tty genetics that fvcked my back up. :| I hopefully should be back to normal in a few months. It mainly effects my biceps. My triceps seem to have not been effected so much. Consequently my bench has dropped to ~350-360. I feel so weak. 😉

🙂

A guy at 94Kg presses 130Kg :Q but he is crazy strong. Press nearly 1.5x his bw but his Jerk isn't all that great 😛

My back is coming along. Snatch 60Kg for 3reps x 7sets today. I'm about 20Kg more from my training weight last year 🙁. Taking it slow. Been a long and very very annoying road to recovery. Taking things slow is very annoying.

Hopefully within 3 months I'll be back to my training weights last year then onwards and up to 300Kg.

Well today I tried 225lbs on the incline bench. I ended up getting it 5 times and almost 6 by myself but needed a little help to get the 6th.

I was pretty happy w/that though. 225lbs felt SO much heavier then 215lbs.

I can maybe put up 205 one time right now...I just started lifting again about a month or two ago.

My best was 265 x 1 (no spot, no bounce, feet off the floor) about 3-4 years (6'1" 185 lbs.) ago when I was lifting consistently 3 times per week. I have very little or no chest to speak of and long arms...chest is the hardest muscle group for me to build. But at the time, I could do about 20-25 pull ups in a row and squat over 300 lbs (I never maxed out but I did sets of 275 x 6).

Edit: I should mention that kinda fvcked up one of my knees playing basketball so I'm not going to go over squat of 225lbs when I get up there again.

Err, what? Lol. I was ripped at 6'2 185lbs and could only do 225, wtf do you look like lmao

i can assure you, he is strong and probably more ripped than you ever were.

BADASS! 😀

Me for the nonbelievers: http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/turkish/after4.jpg

My max is 300 x 2 ... never tried anything more cause got my shoulder injured. I'll probably reach 315 x 2 in a few weeks though. My triceps are very strong, I do skull crushers with 100 lbs x 8. My chest is weak though, working on it.

isnt around this way that the bar starts to drastically bend? ;x

Maybe if he is fast enough moving the bar up. Around 330lbs the bar will start to flex if you put enough power through the bar.

Oh yeah pics are no good also. You can lift a lot without looking like you could lift much easily. When I was 16-18 I could lift quite a lot but I was still thin. Size doesn't mean strength in a lot of cases. It just means you have big muscles but doesn't mean you can lift as much as a smaller guy or vice versa. Too many variables. Not aimed at you but to the F22 raptor guy.

I know... as I said, I am weak on chest but pretty strong with my arms. And being 6'3" certailny doesn't help... My arms are very long 🙂

The biggest BP I know is a guy called Russell. He trains at our club. 5"10, 235lbss, BP 440lbs for 1RM. A legit BP with no bounce. He can also DL 300Kg and do 10 wide grip pull ups at bodyweight!
