Holier than thou!!!
Hypocrites love to argue the obvious.
not really.

my office doesn't really care about internet use as long as it doesn't interfere with doing your job and it's not illegal/unprofessional (re: porn). no sites are blocked.

but if my office did care, I'd stfu and abide by their policy. I wouldn't go through contortions to get around the policy just to check my manhunt messages while on the clock.

my work has blocked personal email sites like yahoo, gmail and etc for a while now. I've been using my student email in the past with no problems. My student email was web-based and now they switched to web-based outlook and that is blocked.

tried using proxy.net, hideu.net, sneakyuser.com

I went to igoogle and they blocked the gmail part.

its not getting to email that i really need, my smartphone does that but i need to print the files. I've attempted to use uploading sites like yousentit.com and its blocked.

So i was thinking maybe if i get a low end email address thru a small company it might not be blocked? That or find a place where i can upload the file at home and download/print at work.

The USB ports are blocked by work as well, no thumb drives.

Your company obviously doesn't want you wasting time with personal email at work. Instead of respect that and adhere to policy, you're spending even MORE time trying (and failing) to circumvent the rules.

Now you want to waste company resources by printing your personal garbage too.

You sound like a winner.

Pretty much par for the course for any office employee I know. Not sure where you work.

In this day and age, accessing personal email at work is almost a necessity.

So is neffing...

What smartphone do you have? If it is a smartphone you can probably save the files and transfer them to your work PC over USB. You should look into that.

KG, you beat me to it.
Also, some SPs allow a "modem"kind of function to be used. If he could connect through that network it would circumvent the blockages on his system...

I had something similar at my last job. All it made me do was not get my personal web-mail at work. It sucked, but whatever. Work is work. If you have a computer, most likely it will have Outlook, and most likely you have an office addy you can access directly through the company.

If you are using it as your free StarPlucks link to your pr0n... well........

You guys arguing over if you should or shouldn't be able to access personal email etc are being idiots. It just comes down to company policy. What the COMPANY sees fit for their organization. Some places (like my work) simply do not allow access to such things. Cell phones MUST be turned off before entering the premises. No CDROM access. No USB port access etc etc. Yes. FULL LOCK DOWN.

Other places are much more lax (and can afford to be) and thus allow their employees access to such things. They realize that with this access the employees will be happier with their job.

That being said, obviously, since the IT department in the OP has shit on lock-down he should NOT be accessing personal email while at work. So he should either talk to his supervisor or stop trying.

Bummer HB.

I guess they do not want any unmonitored/uncontrolled communication at your job.

Some companies need that (trade secrets) and others are just annoyingly anal.

Get your own, little VPS, and make your own proxy server ... lots of people do it.

Pretty locked down network, you work for the government or something?

You might get in trouble if caught.

I think it's up to the employee to decide which company policies are necessary.

Why don't you just forward a copy to your work email. Or am I missing something?

If you are worried about your work having copies, forward them to an account that you can access from work.

OP doesn't have a corporate email account because his supervisors don't feel that he needs one.

kinda sounds like he's an intern or temp or something.

Why do you use the company's toilet water when you could easily wait until you got home?

Well there is an obvious reason the OP is locked out of many company resources and they are trying to circumvent those protections.

here you must use your own webmail to send/recieve personal email.

We give out 'quota time'...6 10min segments a day.
