Six hours, nineteen minutes, right ascension, fourteen degrees, twenty-three minutes declination... no sighting.

Six hours, nineteen minutes, right ascension, fourteen degrees, fifty-eight minutes declination! ...no sighting. Did you get that one Bart?

.... This pretty much sums up what the "excellent" dollar is still doing for me.

Actually this high dollar is really going to hurt the manufacturing sector of our economy badly.
A good valuation would be mid 80's
Unfortunately commodities are going to keep it high as long as WW demand is strong for raw materials.

Because of the strong Canadian dollar compared to the US, Porsche recently cut Canadian new car prices by 10%. GM has responded by banning all 2008 Corvette sale from US dealers to Canadian citizen. :D

$1.07 now.:)

Our unemployment figures got released today and unemployment is down in all provinces. Some financial experts think the dollar may get to $1.20US before spring. It was said that the Bank of Canada probably won't intervene as the economy and inflation/interest rates seem to be within accepted parameters. Still, I doubt we'll reach the historical record high of $2.78 US unless there's another civil war.

Payback (in Canadian dollars) is a bitch, eh?

It sure isn't as much fun when you're on the receiving end of the constant money jokes, isn't it? OK. Maybe I'll just post every five cents increase.

Maybe.

Oh give him a break! How long has the US called Canada's money monopoly money and not worth much? It must be fun for Canucks to throw it back, because the US really has asked for it.

For my part, I live next to Canada and have been avoiding a trip I had planned there, which isn't likely to be encouraged by my money being worse than crap. Canadian products were already costing too much just based on retail prices before but now with the US dollar in the pisser, even a quick weekend there would sour my experience.

The well known Canadian inferiority complex in regards to anything American.

Again, nothing like turning one's hubris back on them!

BTW, something needs to be done about the price of books, which has not yet been updated in Canada...

I have some Canadian relatives who whine about how much stuff still costs there. They seem oblivious to the fact that they brought it upon themselves. To demonize the high retail prices they pay while on the other hand doggedly defend the heavy government and taxation, all of which negatively impacts the economy, is comical to me.

Maybe.

Don't worry about it. As much as I abhor the exchange right now because it's costing me real money every month (CAN student loans and tuition still going to Canada in CAD), the pain and resentment you're bringing forth out of people is a growing pain. It's good for them to have rubbed in their face what they rubbed before and the humility it teaches will be a good lesson that they can take forward in their lives.

Nah, rub it in, pay them back in $US :D

Speaking of which, suddenly I receive US coins as Change everytime I buy something. WTF is up with that?

Canadian dollar is still good only in Canada. You can actually use American dollar outside of the US in certain countries.

That's what exchanges are for.

And I'm getting depressed just watching this swan dive of the dollar, as someone who has to travel quite frequently, I don't enjoy it a least bit.

This is good news, because I'm planing on buying a new truck in the next few months, and at this rate I can get a new truck at 1/2 the price down South :)

Does this mean that all export from Canada is going to be affected by the high CAD?

I wonder if BC cash crop price is getting any higher in the US, or it is dropping in price to meet the weak USD?

take a look at the transport canada website for vehicles that can be brought into Canada duty exempt, find a dealer in the US who will fill all the paperwork out to import the vehicle into Canada. You will pay 6% on the purchase price, then the car/truck will have to be inspected by an auto shop like Canadian Tire. That will cost you a few hundred $$ and thats it. My friend did this and saved $16k over buying his Nissan in Seattle than in BC. He paid $1K less than the US retail price. Truck in BC was $56K, truck in Seattle WA $39K
