I don't think it improves readability or anything and it can cause some formatting problems (like in email set to wrap at a certain number of characters you can end up with a line indented by one space for no reason).
Grammar and spelling are antiquated these days as well.

I still put in two spaces because of habit. My understanding is now, though, that one space is the new "standard."

2 spaces if you are using a typewriter, but 1 on a computer. This has been answered many times.

Period-space-space. That's how I was taught in typing class in HS. I'm not sure it matters though.

People who grew up with typewriters use two spaces but those of us who grew up with computers use one space.

ditto. that's how we were taught up through high school. Altho, my sister is a sophomore in high school now, when she was back in middle school, i'd proof read her papers and she always used 1 space. so it seems times are finally changing in the early educational years

I do two spaces, my wife does one. It drives me nuts when I'm editing her papers for school.

one space... see no point in using two spaces... there's no "correct" way of doing it anyway. It doesn't fall under grammar, spelling, punctuation... it's merely layout and effect. To me, using two spaces just makes the two sentences further apart, as though you're after a lengthier pause. Wouldn't you think?

I do period and no space.Period already serves as a seperator. What's the point of a space after a period anyway?

I use period-space. I've never heard of using two spaces, never thought about using two spaces, and never will use two spaces. ;)

One space when typing emails and non-formal documents and letters. Two spaces for formal documents, papers, and letters. Usually, for printed material I prefer two spaces.

Aesthetically more pleasing. Easier to read.
