But Denis, I know it says that, but it is NOT WORKING AT ALL, forget, perfectly. I have yet to hear one beep from this system.

Rebooting woke things up a bit, pls see below, but now the stopped button has blue around it and I can not change it to "Start"!

Is this something wrong on the board? something in Windows per se? A driver issue?

It SAYS "STARTED", but how can that be, since I get no beeps at all? Never have so far. Not ANY.

OK.did you try to run a sfc /scannow. this is a bug in windows 7 64 bit. you might have to get the driver for xp😱

OMG, a bug???? And there I was, always thinking W7, LUV IT, PERFECT, NO BUGS!

Very good idea to run the sfc /scan! This will take a bit....I feel so bad U R wasting time on this dumb thing, Denis!!!!

But beeps are vital, given what they tell us!!!!

OK, here's the deal. First, I hate sfc in W7 cause it doesn't tell you things when it finishes as it did in XP. So, anyhow, I rebooted after it finished, hoping it might have found things and fixed things. No way. :|

And in the beep interface in Device Mgr, it seems to default to "Boot" tho I had it on system. I hit all the options in the drop down menu, they all say "started" but they are not. Same blue around the stopped button in all of them.:|

And, if this is a known bug in W7 64-bit, how come I am the only one having this problem?:$ How come everyone running W7 64 is not BEEPLESS???

o! JUS NOW SAW, in W8 too?? How come beepless members all over this site aren't posting in distress?????

I need to look in that place now to see if system sounds are turned off there. I am now doing the lunatic giggles....this is my response to this kinda insanity. But still, way better than anger.

NO, for 7, it's exactly what I've been trying to get done in Device Mgr. Let me see if disabled is on and if so, I can change it.

The header you outlined (#8 in your posted diagram) is used to connect an optional internal case speaker to the motherboard. #15 is the onboard piezo buzzer which creates system beeps.

Now, that being said, is there a reason you want it to beep every time you restart it? If the system is properly working, sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone before you frag something up. The majority of times you have a problem, it will be covered by the diagnostic lights as described in your owners manual.

There will be an option somewhere in the system BIOS options to activate/deactivate the onboard speakers. It is possible that this option turns both the piezo buzzer and the onboard speaker header on and off. If it is deactivated, it won't hurt to turn it on if you don't actually have a case speaker plugged in to the motherboard to see if it makes a difference.

I just tried another approach and look at this below! Says NO DRIVERS R INSTALLED!!! Seriously????? Is Windows CONFUSED????? MY POOR SPEAKER HAS NO driver installed??????😱😱:'(

So interesting!!!!!!! I am going into the bios immediately. I very much respect yr conservative approach here, but call me stubborn, I have never had a computer that did not give normal beeps. So I am comforted by the beeps, and also comforted knowing if something goes wrong, I will get beep codes I will be able to use to diagnose.

I never heard of piezo buzzer. Does it LEAN? As in the leaning tower of Piezo? (I am in my lunatic phase, remember.)

Wow. Quel mess! (I would say merde alors! but I won't()🙂)

But via my drivers app, Uniblue, a good one, and Intel, all my drivers are up to date. And I flashed the bios when the system first arrived, I now have the latest version.

Now....I have no clue if the internal speaker has drivers installed or not!!!! Not only am I not making progress, I am REGRESSING.()🙂:biggrin::colbert:😳

I need to go into the bios. JUST IN CASE this, and the leaning buzzer of Pisa are in there.
But first I need to delve into this: on Intel(R) Q57 Express Chipset LPC Interface Controller - 3B0A

That particular interface controller.

I NEVER HAVE SYSTEM RESTORE TURNED ON. Cause of my internal backup strategy. but I thik I might turn it on for a bit now.

OK wait, it said driver for this interface controller is working splendidly and I have the current driver. WUT?????????????????

It is with sincere regret I must report, after expanding everything expandable, I see nothing resembling any leaning speaker or buzzer of Pisa.

I believe I may have to go BEEPLESS for the duration of my warm and fuzzy, joyful partnership with this computer.

I also think Windows should be POLYGRAPHED.

Just cause I spent hours trying to figure this out, who cares? I only feel bad others wasted THEIR TIME.

Seriously, let us assume I have Windows drivers for this thing. If the bug is in the OS, should I not try to get the Intel drivers? No, I already have Intel drivers for it.

Or, say.... some LE MANS drivers??

In my system the driver is from microsoft.6.1.7600.16385(win7_rtm.0907131255)
driver is located in C:Windows/system32/drivers/Beep.sys

What I just did, it is running right now, is go to Dell, they have the most complete support ever.....and, believe it or not, this system technically is under warranty until March of 2014 it says when it read the insides of the puppy (tho I am not the original owner).....I downloaded their infinite diagnostics, I could also run those from the bios, but who cares? And it is running right now.....they said it will take an hour. I mean, what's the downside? I can go shower, blow out my hair and it will still be going, so that's cute.

I mean, in case it's the machine and not W7. But, the odds of that are worse than the Pope getting married during Sunday Mass.()🙂
