Hi.

I have had this new/used Optiplex 980 for a while now. From the first time I fired it up, it worked flawlessly.....but it's the only computer I ever had that has NO POST BEEP. NONE.

It's not my ears, it does not make even a teeny beep. I made others listen too, and nobody heard diddly.

How is this possible?:colbert:

Thanks!

Well, I am stuck. I went into Device Mgr>show hidden everything>beep, saw it, system, was stopped, but, the start button did not work and now it is stuck and both buttons are greyed out.

What is goin on here? What do I need to do to fix this? U think I am missing a jumper on the board? If so, I will find where it is in my Service Manual and check it out. But, if I can fix this via Windows, that would be better. I NEED normal BEEPS. Esp if sumthin goes wrong!!!

It's possible the speaker is broken or physically disconnected from the motherboard. The BIOS beeps have absolutely nothing to do with Windows.

INTERESTING. I am positive nothing is broken. Physically disconnected, perhaps; I will check it for sure.

And, given the screenies I put up, it seems you can configure these things in Windows, yes?

OR NOT.

I delved a bit, and it could also be either a missing jumper or a jumper I need to remove.

Never addressed any of this before.

I will now look in my PDF service manual.

Ok guys.......I finally was able to get off working via Skype, could open the box, find the thingy and make a pic. Remember I hazarded it could be a jumper issue? Well, see below. See very thin red outline I put.

My little port is JUMPERLESS. Unlike the one shown in the image of the board I put up from the tech manual. Its little pins are naked with nothing connecting them.:|

So, I think this means my system don beep cause my little mobo speaker needs its jumper. Is that right? Cause it is possible I am not seeing that port in the manual clearly, and it only looks as if there is an oblong, full port jumper in it. Can someone pls say?

If the issue is I need the jumper, where on earth would I get this jumper? Cause it is no way like a generic drive jumper; it is very port specific, oblong, if U look at the image from the manual, fills the whole port, tho maybe it only looks as if it does... and, I fear, it might be proprietary.:|

But without this jumper, I now think my board will never speak normally!!!! Maybe it shipped silent without the jumper.....but also, maybe the original owner removed the jumper! Why? Maybe he was hungry.

Or.....maybe I am not getting any of this right.

You just need the speaker.thats all

It's mechanically Genius Denis!!!!

Denis, how U know there is no speaker? Same way you know when an engine is missing a fuel pump?():)

And, if speaker is missing, why is it missing? Where does it go????? Can I use BOSE?

Kidding.

Can I take the speaker from my other, older Optiplex and put it in this one? Pls show me where the speaker is, cause I just do not know.

Are U sure it doesn't just need a JUMPER?

MERCI, DENIS!!!!!

NO. wait number 15 is your speaker.silly me

Wut? Denis, pls look at the image of the board I put up from my Tech manual in a previous post. I first looked and identified it there, so I could simply identify the thingy properly when I opened the box to find it on the actual board.

Well they are not all the same! Is it ok now.Was it off

I see that! Denis, see below, which one do I choose?

I luv U, Denis. You are as sharp as the heel on a Jimmy Choo strappy sandal.

My feeling is I should choose "automatic." Tho I prefer manual transmissions. lol

Why are there so many options????

Something is wrong. Truth is, I tried to get this done in Windows much earlier as I posted. First, and I did choose "system" it showed up stopped, when I tried to hit start things got jammed up. Now, tried that again, and things got jammed up and I got an error window.

Shall I uninstall the driver and reinstall it? Cause this puppyboard has no voice and Christina will not turn her chair around. None of the judges will until it can SING.

i AM GOING TO REBOOT AND SEE IF THE BUTTONS GET NORMAL.
