Wait?... You guys go back to work after lunch?

Seriously though?... I take as long a lunch as I want... as long as my work is done on time, I get paid and everyone is happy.

hehe I'm sure they were desperate to keep your lazy a$$ too. ;)

none.

if it's really slow, I might eat something at my desk or run to a deli a block away, but that only happens, like, once a week.

Mostly 1 hour. But when it's a Friday or my boss has some appetite for something else (yups, nearly the entire team goes for lunch with our boss :p); then it'll be anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours :)

lol...I'd do taht, but my boss gets kinda annoyed. So I do the next best thing and take 1/2 hour...like everyone else at my office takes 1 hour though (bunch of engineers...they all do everything at the same time, it's creepy).

Edit: Bout 10 minutes ago, I was finishing up some stuff before lunch (it was liek 12:33), and one guy walks past my cubicle, stops, and says "it's 12:30...no working, eat."

No lunch room at my anti-social company, and no one ever goes out to eat, so I just eat something at my desk and read AT or Slashdot for a little bit...can't keep that up too long though, so probably only 30 minutes or so.

I usually take 10 minutes to quickly eat whatever I have. But the phone always ring and so it's more like eat 2 minutes, leave the food, and then eat another 2 minutes.

In China, if you work for the government, you get an hour lunch break, and an hour afternoon nap time. It's insane.

lol, in China, if you don't work for the govt, you work hardcore hours. My dad heads up a section in Nortel's Beijing office, and he says the guys under him often pull 10, 12+ hour days to get all the stuff done. I guess it's like if you don't work hard, there's plenty of other willing people to replace you.

Even in fast food places (like KFC or McDonald's), the service is excellent. The cashiers are polite, and they speak clearly (rarely found in immigrant driven US shops...). They have people walking around to find a seat for you if it's crowded (big room) & clean up after you're done eating.

You even get service at ice cream parlours (hagen daaz, for example). All because labor is cheap (minimum wage is $600RMB a month...that works out to about $75USD), so companies can hire lots of people and not give a d*mn.

If I eat lunch at my desk or talk business with management while eating off campus, it is considered work time.

Funny thing is that my first job outside of college was with a state chamber of commerce (KY). We took two and a half hour, three hour lunches and most of it was a liquid lunch ( ;) ). When I moved further south, everyone crammed their food down in a half hour. And no alcohol.

It took some getting used to.

30 minutes on the dot now that they changed our punch clock to not let you clock in any earlier. Used to do 10-20 minutes so that I could leave just that little bit earlier.

Pay in fast food is relatively good within China, so the work atitude is better. I didn't know about the insane hours in factories though...
