People who use the right lane as the fast lane

To get around people that use the left lane as the slow lane.

And passing on the right on limited access highways is legal.

People who use the right lane as the fast lane do it because people use the left lane as the slow lane. Explained.

Had to do it on my way to work last night on my motorcycle. Some asshole slowing down the left lane finally decided to move over right when I was passing on the right. I used my blinker, he didn't. If he had signaled his intention to move over I never would have passed on the right. Asshole.

I only do it to get in front of the idiots who drive too slow. Also to avoid the merging lane when it is on the left.

because shouting "get the fuck out of the fast lane you fucking idiot!!!!!" has proven to be less effective than just flying around them on the right.

If you slow people would get out of the fast lane, I would not have to pass you in the right lane.

What is wrong with you slow people that that you feel that you have to drive in the left lane?

Just because you can "almost" drive the speed limit, does not mean you should be in the left lane.

People just don't understand the "slow traffic keep to the right" rule.

Also people tend to be totally oblivious to the rear view mirror. If you see a car approaching from the rear that is going much faster than you are it would be nice if you move over to the right. If you see a stack of cars on your bumper and there are miles of free space in front of you that might be an indication you are driving to slow.

Sometimes it is just easier to move around slow traffic.

Im wondering what it is with the idiots around here who pass on the right in the breakdown lane. They just dont get that its not a lane of travel...

If someone's going slowly in the left lane, I'm not going to sit behind them for ten miles when there's a perfectly clear lane to the right which I can use to pass them.

Yeah, that's a different issue entirely. I saw someone do that once, we were in a 65 zone, tons of traffic everywhere all going 75, she was tailgating the crap out of me. Like literally less than 1 car length away. I couldn't have possibly gone any faster because there was a car in front of me, and a car in front of him, and in front of him, etc. So psycho bitch decides to go into the right lane and then onto the right shoulder (breakdown lane) and goes around a few people before cutting back onto the road and continuing to go the same speed as all the other traffic.

I wish she had crashed.

Because of idiots in the left lane trying to do a left turn at an intersection where it's nearly impossible, holding up traffic. Pisses me off when people do that. If your turn fails the first time, then don't bother, turn somewhere else or do a bunch of right turns to get there.

The best is the rice rocket kids that pass in the middle of the 2 lanes. I see it a lot on the hutch during peak times.

I try not to use the right lane, except when my exit is coming up. I do not want or need to deal with cars that are merging onto the road. All that does is slow down my trip, so center lane is best, with the left lane to pass a car, then move back to center. I also try to stay no more than 10MPH over on a major road, but around here there are some roads, where even 10MPH over is too much. For those I stay within 5MPH of posted speeds.

I think the big issue here is what people are defining as "too slow". If I'm driving at 75 mph in a 60 (and people drive 60-65) and I get passed on the right by a car going 80 mph... yeah...

If you are in the fast lane and see someone coming up behind you at a faster speed have the courtesy to move over to the slow lane (if there is room to do so of course).

People just don't understand the "slow traffic keep to the right" rule.

I think there should be a mandatory 15 minute video repeating "stay right except to pass. No cruising in the left lane" over and over. Maybe eventually people will learn.

That, and police should actually enforce it (I hear some states do to some extent).

Oh, and its a bad idea to call it the "fast" lane. That implies if you think you are going fast, you are allowed to be in it. Its the passing lane. In general you are only allow to be in it if you are going faster than people to your right.
