People who double-click on html links

I'd almost rather have them double click on whatever than have another idiot calling for tech support ask me whether to single or double click on EVERYTHING.

What's even worse, when they have to ask whether to right or left click, or the ones that think a double click is clicking with BOTH BUTTONS!

That's because computers are inconsistent like that. Why can't we just single click everything? We single click buttons and just about everything in the browser, but we double click on icons? The interfaces are different and that's why people get confused.

On the web, we hover to select and display information and we single click to open. On the desktop, we click to select and view information and double click to open. Why?

How do you get confussed by it. The reason you double click on files on the desktop/explore is so that you can select an item. There is no need to select hyperlinks so there is no need to double click.

Why would you ever need to select an icon? If you need to move it, just click and hold, drag it to where you need and release. You can do that with links and images in a browser too. Most computer literate people think the current system makes sense only because they're used to it. If you think about it, double clicking is unnecessary. At most, double clicking just prevents people from accidentally opening things. If that's the case, then links should be double clicked too. I'm sure everyone's accidentally clicked on links before.
