Most of my "TV" time is eaten up by YouTube and Netflix these days.

Just curious, what do you find worth while on Netflix? I have it, but don't seem to be able to find anything interesting on it. Like you, I don't really like TV much. Just one or two tv shows.

It's good for binging on TV shows.

Sons of Anarchy
Walking Dead
Breaking Bad
Mad Men
The League
Archer
House of Cards

And for kids it's a godsend when you need 20 minutes to get dinner ready or do the dishes afterwards. There's an endless amount of kids shows to feast on.

Wow, helps if I can read, especially when I am the one that provided the link.

Strangely, I can access ESPN3 with only an internet package from Comcast.

ESPN 3 is used for two things:

1. Distributing content that is simply not attractive enough to put on its real channels like ESPN1/2, SEC Network, or ESPN U. This is often international events, or minor college sports. As long as your internet provider gets access to ESPN3 you can stream these events.

2. A a duplicate distribution platform for their primary channels listed above. The difference here is that if you try to access something on ESPN3 that is currently on ESPN (like MNF) for almost all providers ESPN will require a login to confirm that you actually pay for cable and get ESPN normally. Disney does this for the exact point of the whole thread- to screw over cord cutters.

Guys, I know I started this thread a while ago, I still haven't cut the cord yet. Not because I don't want to, just have been so busy, and Commiecast has been hassling me big time.

A) They are going to charge me $200 to "cancel my contract" with them. Is there ANY way out of this?? I pleaded with the rep to waive the fee. Citing I'm still going to use their service, but just for internet. Also, I've been a good customer for over 4 years, and pay my bills on time. Nothing.

B) They said I have a cable box under my name, that I know I don't have. Essentially, if I cancel my service and don't return it, it's going to be $200-400 fee for the "lost" box. I know for a fact I don't have it, because when they updated their software to the X1 stuff back earlier this year, I handed all my old boxes to the Tech, and he handed me three new ones. I can account for all three of the new boxes, but the 4th I can't, which they say is misses. I asked what it's status was, and they said "inactive". To me that says the tech lost it, or it is in a warehouse some where and wasn't accounted for by Commiecast. Either way, it's BS that I'm liable for their mistakes.

What can I do? I don't want to pay up to $600 to cancel, I can't afford that. Granted, I will be saving probably around $80 a month... But the pay off period is kind of long if I need to really spend that much money.

Did you get a receipt from the Tech? Never give up rented equipment without a receipt.

They don't care how long or how good of a customer you are. That's how it works.

Contact the Better Busines Bereau and submit a complaint. Comcast is an accreditted member so they are required to address it. I had to use this tactic on Charter before, surprisingly it worked well.

No, I was not aware that tech's gave receipts. I got a receipt from the person at the local Comcast when I returned the modem I rented from them when I got my own, but I suppose I didn't think to get one when he came to my house.

I'm just pissed because they know they can get away with crap like this. My friend told me I can refuse to pay it, or ask for a bill, then never pay. When they claim me and it shows up on my credit report, I should/can call up Experion and report a fraudulent claim against me.

Furthermore, this is an old out dated box. It's not like they reuse these. If they are upgrading all customers to their new X1 software, there is no need to hold these. They likely just toss them for recycling parts.

Well, CC will just say that I agreed to a contract, and I'm infringing on the terms. They are technically correct, but I think it's just bad business. It's not like I am canceling, then going to FIOS or some other company. I simply can't afford their insanely high bills anymore, and I need to cut costs.

It's them just tossing me the middle finger because they know they have a monopoly around here.

You could refuse to pay the box fee. Cut them off from the ability to charge you. They can bill you, they can sue you, they can report it to credit. You can dispute those things.

I hear ya.

What about the device though? The BBB could probably help with that. Comcast should have service records for their field techs. There is some record of the visit. Getting Comcast to dig for that won't be easy. It will help if you haven't had many visits.

How much time left on the contract?

I never renewed the 1st year contract from Comcast, just returned the device. I have basic cable and dropped the internet down to 25Mbps, no model lease, bill is just under $70/month still. I went from 100Mbps for $10 more /month

man, my parents are really being taken to the cleaners with their cable bill. they just signed up for comcast triple play. I tried to buy them a modem from amazon so they could save $8 month for modem rental, but nope. you need to rent the modem because its the only one that can do voice. they are also paying $15 for this BS vietnamese channel that sucks imo. but w/e.

I'm trying to set them up with HD Homerun prime and repurpose a PC as an HTPC for them so they can save $20 a month from the DVR. its an unwinnable battle!

Tech has probably been to my house 3 times in 4 years. Shouldn't be too hard to look up. Contract has something like 12-13 months left I believe. Even if I was charged the full $600, my pay off period using the savings from a reduced bill is less than the term of my contact, so it's still beneficial to cancel ASAP.

I want the highest tier, or maybe 2nd highest tier speeds because I stream a lot of video and play online video games often. I honestly don't even watch TV, other than hockey. I'm going to find other means to get sports hopefully with out any cable. I'll try an OTA antenna, but don't expect much around here according to the website I was linked before.

Good luck getting the NFL. DTV got it's renewed Sunday Ticket deal for a 50% price increase, and they aren't in a hurry to give everyone access.

Why bother? Unless they're begging you for money they are adults. Let them do as they please. I considered setting up an HTPC for my folks but ultimately decided a TIVO would be better suited for them. They couldn't be happier with it.

Oh, this is a Canadian thread. Sorry, I falsely assumed this was a thread about America and non commies.

This is a thread about cord cutters. We are all commies that want to stop using the service of corporations thus robbing them of the profit that they are entitled to.

Not that's the thing, you signed a contract for a term for a minimum amount or service, you trying to drop below the amount of service you are contractually obligated to keep.

I thought we all wanted government sponsored cable plans, subsidized so we don't have to pay for services rendered?

They already do. Cable companies are getting large checks from the US government to build and maintain their network.

it would be nice if our tax dollars were used for something like that for the people that pay the taxes, but instead they mostly subsidies the billions in profit these corporations are making.

You should all stop watching other peoples lives and try living yourselves. There's a whole lot of fun you can have for basically free.

I'm approaching 3 years cable/phone free. I miss nothing. Savings to date is close to $3400 and counting.

Invested in an OTA antenna. Channelmaster 4221HD which works from our attic (Ontario, Canada). We get about 20 channels. We don't have any streaming service. We watch movies via redbox, and up until boxee box went EOL used that for streaming (free) content from the major providers.
