people try to break in/enter our apt three times already

i have to add i when i was in IL we were in a neighbourhood known as "bad"... 90% hispanic...but i never felt the *slightest* unsafe.
I also need to add that i was working with many people, indians, black people, hispanics and they were all the greatest co-workers and friends !
But here the people are 100% the *bad* stereotype of what you see on "cops" or whatever..at least in this neighbourhood.

I mean if you see 'em strolling around with their hoodies, cars get constantly broken in here in the apt complex, its obviously there is stuff going on with drugs (like 4:00 morning especially on the weekends they're out there with their walky-talky organizing whatever..i dont even want to know)...etc..
I hope very much to move to nashville to a nice area. This with the thgs actually never bothered me becasue i just did it off as them being retards...but i mean now its obvious. The Q is if he would've tried to break open the door entirely (thinking noone was home)...and also ALWAYS a bad feeling every time we left the apt. (Knowing they literally checked out our PCs/Notebooks and whatever we had in here like they were window shopping). I mean they are so desperate they break in cars and rip out radios...so this must seem to them very tempting.

Btw...irconically..the few months ago when the car was broken in....we have NO CLUE how they got in...the door was open and we always lock the car. NO DAMAGE outside...except the whole middle-console thing ripped out and the radio more or less nicely unplugged.

To our amazement there was my GF's wallet with credit-cards and SS number and everything In the car (yes, dumb !) and they didnt touch it..or maybe were in such a big hurry they didnt see it.

Well, I don't mean to be an asshole or anything but...

I listen to a lot of rap/hip-hop and a lot of the times, those words are only used in those types of music. As most of you all know, a lot of that music is by black people. I mean, only Eminem and K-Fed (*shudders*, not that I listen to him or anything) are like virtually the only non-black rappers, with the exception of some unknown artists out there.

So uhh...yeah...

And flexy, just tell us what race your neighbors are. :disgust:
 
Why would you move into a "attractive and successful African-American" neighborhood?

You have no one to blame but yourself...

You don't see me complaining about all the Micronesian immigrants in my neighborhood, do you?

They aren't intelligent enough to grab that stuff. These people only have one thing on their minds when they break into cars. What first attracts them is their target...everything else is pointless.

Oh, and they probably just jimmied your car door open. Or bump keyed it...its fairly simple.

But lets not kid ourselves. If you are up north we are mostly likely talking black, if it is south we are mostly likely talking Hispanic.

Things are the way they are, I don't why we talk around it so much.
 
You guys that always say "get a gun" are so funny to me... and I live in Texas!

It's not the "thugs" I'm afraid of... it's you people. Thats why whenever anyone I am with is out driving around or taking a hike or a walk we are always a little careful of the gun wielding property owners that "shoot the animals" as one person put it :roll: . And I understand someone trying to break into an apartment is a different deal (although they never really broke in - just checked to see if the door was unlocked).

Obviously they aren't going to shoot you through the glass - unless you are waving a pistol around like some second amendment rambo. Maybe thats why our murder rate is 2,000 people higher then most other Western countries per year?

Now I'll put on my flame suit as you explain to me how I am wrong and will be victimized by a gun toting ninja criminal thug from the fifth ward. Fire away! (no pun intended 😉 )

OH BTW - to the poster above - I would be just as afraid of the white hillibies I live around as some of the people that live in other lower-income areas. Actually scratch that - I am more afraid of the 300k white yuppies in my neighborhood that drive their BMWs and Mustangs while on X and coke going 100 mph down a suburban street!

Certain years and models of Dodge vehicles can be broken into without breaking the windows etc, all they need is a screwdriver, or something to jimmy the door. I know cause my Neon at the time (I no longer drive that pos now) I had one got broken into twice. The second time, my radio was such a pos, that the faceplate would break into dozens of pieces like legos if you pulled it off too fast, so I got even with a would-be car thief.

You know you live in a bad area when there are more pawn shops and payday loan places than banks.
 
If you are truly in the city of chicago and you are only paying $600 a month for rent, you ARE in the ghetto. You should be looking at more like $1000 / month for a decent one bedroom place (not a studio). More like $1500-1800 if you are looking at 2-3 bedrooms.

Lincoln park / Bucktown are both nice neighborhoods, you should probably look in there. I hear you can get a 1br in Presidential towers in the loop for $850 a month or so, but then you are in the loop (not that great of a night scene since it is a business district).

EDIT: never mind, you are in TN.

In America it is. The Mexicans live in Little Mexico or the Barrio. The blacks live in the ghetto, orientals of any race all live in China town and the whites live in trailer parks.
 
I think that you should leave your shades open for a bit and make sure that your "neighbors" see you cleaning your new gun. That should get the point across 🙂

That really sucks man.

The sad part is that some people really consider this a way of life. Like actually getting a job is just too much work or something. They all just want to get rich fast and they don't realize it's not going to happen when all they do is live a criminal life.

You might be better off finding an extended stay hotel and living there for $600 a month until you find a new home than you would fearing for your life and posessions daily.

I have a decent non-studio 1BR for $700/month, includes heat and water, and the neighborhood isn't a ghetto - it's actually pretty nice, clean and quiet. I live by Pulaski and Elston.

Just remember, reason with the criminal, kill him with kindness. He'll obviously come to his senses and immediately apologize for the interruption.

A convertible (smaller 1br) in Presidential Towers would cost me 1250 if I decided to renew my lease in February.... which I won't.
