People should wait a little while before naming their kids after attributes.

Billiam has a nice ring to it though.
That would mess up his life. He would say his name is Bill and people would write it down as William. They try to email him (first.last at company.com), look him up on facebook, look him up on the employee directory, and they all say he doesn't exist.

This website about names is interesting. Discussoin about Aiden sheds some light on why it's popular. It's interesting to see that some people named their daughter Aiden even though it's a man's name. Even worse is that it's a popular name. A class might have 3 kids named Aiden and the girl is the odd one out. That would be like naming your son Bella.
Apparently it's popular due to a character from Sex and the City. Aiden Shaw was engaged to horse face in the show.

Those "ay" "den" names are fucking fail. Do people look up the most popular names for kids and randomly pick one?

I hate those names, and it seems like A LOT of kids have them these days. It also seems like those with names like Aiden and Jayden or whatever are more misbehaved than other kids, but this could just be my own observation.

If I had kids I would name them after diseases and conditions like: Psoriasis or Scabes or Irritating Anal Itch.

That's pretty much what kids are these days.

Apparently it's from Sex and the City, so you can assume that it's popular among 16 year old mothers who accidentally get pregnant because they think that being slutty is the same thing as being empowered. (Gladstone does a good job explaining how it's not the same). Single moms are not known for their strong disciplining skills.

I knew a guy named "shawn" but his parents spelled it "Sjon" for him. They did not seem to be swedish or icelandic which would be my first thought.

My buddy was christened Shawn. When he found out the correct spelling of his name was Sean, he walked home and immediately had his name legally changed to Sean. IIRC, he was in 3rd grade and by "walked home" I mean he left school during school hours and walked home in a huff... lol

His name would be William. The only name I would ever call him growing up would be William or Will. If he wants his friends to call him Cantankerous, that is his choice. I can not stop that.

Billiam has a nice ring to it though.

That's a nice thought, but it doesn't always work that way. My brother Charles is known by Chuck to everyone in the world except for about 5 people in my family who are holding on to his "real" name.

My sister gave her kids names that had no nicknames, specifically so the same thing wouldn't happen to them. Maybe you should go that route.

Those "ay" "den" names are fucking fail. Do people look up the most popular names for kids and randomly pick one?

I did just the opposite. I looked at the most common names in order to not pick them.

I liked the name Jayden from STNG before (I think) it became popular. Now that *ayden names are so popular, I would never name my kid that. I had a common name growing up, and I had very few clasess without 1-2 other kids with the same name. I gave my kid an uncommon (but not weird) name to keep that from happening to him.

I like traditional names, but there's nothing wrong with sprucing up the name environment. I agree that ridiculous names seem to beget stupidity. I wouldn't hire a person regardless of their race if they have a retarded name simply because I wouldn't want to say it. I have issues sometimes.

I chose a "traditional" name for my oldest child, but more obscure names for my other 3.

My oldest is Timothy, but goes by Timmy
2nd oldest is Tamar
3rd oldest is Titus
last born is Tessa

A somewhat original name can help someone remember your name from my experience.

I overheard a conversation by a woman complaining that she needed to go to the health & welfare office to get her food stamps restarted. Her name was Charity.

Ya, think before you name a child.

Yeah I think some people really try too hard with making names unique. Some work, some don't. A friend of mine is a huge musician nerd and named one of his sons "Gibson". I like it. I can almost call the demographic by the name.

Neveah (heaven backwards)
Faith
Chastisty
Savanah
----All white trash names

Hudson
Aiden
Hunter
Colt
Boston
Chase
---- uppity suburban folk

I went basic with my kids.
Elizabeth & Isaac.

Those are rednecky ones around here. I also know a few girls who have named their son Hunter. Also heard of a Remington and Winchester.

Yeah it's weird. I would think that it would be redneck/white trashy. But I know two different ones under each name and they are definitely of the surburbanite demographic.

People also need to take into account how that name will seem when the person is grown up. "Jayden" may seem cute when the kid is 3 years old, but for a 30 year old.......It's downright ridiculous.

Fucking hate the "ay" "den" names.

I like the idea of naming kids after attributes, particularly attributes they might actually possess at a young age. I wonder how the wife will feel about "Whiny Incontinent Moron" for our firstborn...

Devine, Hope, Charity, Dusty, Misty, etc.
names like that should be banned, how come they even allow people to register kids with such retarded names?

For a dog, okay, whatever, but kids? Stick to normal names ffs.
Luckily this cancer is very confined here, I actually don't know anyone without a real name.

I knew a girl named Chastity in high school. Ironically she had a reputation for being the easiest girl in school.

Personally, my favorite odd first names are based on mathematical symbols or numbers, e.g., "Prime," "Sigma," "Delta," "Psi," "Factorial," etc.

You know someone named Factorial?
