This website about names is interesting. Discussoin about Aiden sheds some light on why it's popular. It's interesting to see that some people named their daughter Aiden even though it's a man's name. Even worse is that it's a popular name. A class might have 3 kids named Aiden and the girl is the odd one out. That would be like naming your son Bella.
Apparently it's popular due to a character from Sex and the City. Aiden Shaw was engaged to horse face in the show.

Apparently it's from Sex and the City, so you can assume that it's popular among 16 year old mothers who accidentally get pregnant because they think that being slutty is the same thing as being empowered. My buddy was christened Shawn. When he found out the correct spelling of his name was Sean, he walked home and immediately had his name legally changed to Sean. IIRC, he was in 3rd grade and by "walked home" I mean he left school during school hours and walked home in a huff... lol

That's a nice thought, but it doesn't always work that way. My brother Charles is known by Chuck to everyone in the world except for about 5 people in my family who are holding on to his "real" name.

My sister gave her kids names that had no nicknames, specifically so the same thing wouldn't happen to them. Maybe you should go that route.

I did just the opposite. I looked at the most common names in order to not pick them.

I liked the name Jayden from STNG before (I think) it became popular. Now that *ayden names are so popular, I would never name my kid that. I had a common name growing up, and I had very few clasess without 1-2 other kids with the same name. I gave my kid an uncommon (but not weird) name to keep that from happening to him.

Yeah I think some people really try too hard with making names unique. Some work, some don't. A friend of mine is a huge musician nerd and named one of his sons "Gibson". I like it. I can almost call the demographic by the name.

People also need to take into account how that name will seem when the person is grown up. "Jayden" may seem cute when the kid is 3 years old, but for a 30 year old.......It's downright ridiculous.
