So I am looking for a used 60" Plasma since I love Plasmas and our current one is broken.

Rules for STUPID people, which there seem to be many around:

1) Make sure you only write "Selling 60" Plasma" and do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT mention the exact model number. It would be a catastrophe. Just say "selling 60" plasma" and have the other guy figure everything out.

2) You *must not* spell "SAMSUNG" right, even if every fracking Samsung TV has it written in bold letters right there on the front. Write "Sansun" or "Sansung". Better: Leave that information out all together and just write you're selling a 60" TV.

3) Be concise and precise with your descriptions. Such as "is in perfect shape except that the panel is broken" or "works great except that there is a red line all across the picture". Holy crap! Fantastic. There is *NO* smoke coming out when you turn it on??! SOLD!!

4) Mention that the TV cost you $8,000 back in 1947. This is very important. Really.

5) A picture says more than 1000 words, and this is especially true if 1) and/or 2) is the case and you didn't specify any information WHAT the frack you actually selling. So take the CRAPPIEST AND BLURRIEST ASS picture you can even take with your phone and put it up with your ad. So blurry you cannot even discern what's on the picture. And definitely make sure you never, ever take a picture of the back with the label where there is more information. (Which is moot anyway since the picture is so blurry that it would be entirely pointless)

Bonus prize goes to the Nobel prize laureate who sells his big screen TV that shows the TV COVERED.ENTIRELY.WITH.A.BLANKET. Let me guess, you're the bro of the guy who recently sold some shoes on classifieds with a picture of the box (but not the shoes)? <--- And no, I am not making this up

6) Call it a flat-panel TV when the picture clearly shows it's a tube.

OP, you never know...it MIGHT be a Sansun or Sansung set...seems like there's as much...or more knock-off/counterfeit stuff on Craisglist than on Ebay nowadays.

Here's one that I came across recently. I'm looking for a chest of drawers for a guest bedroom.

Craigslist ad is titled "Nice chest of drawers - $388". This is the photo:

I'd say "go OLED" but it's probably a year too soon for that.

Any TV that recommends you not watch 4:3 ratio content for more than an hour at a time because of image retention has "issues."

I'm hoping my 1996 1080p DLP hangs in there for one more year....

not to mention the more energy plasma tv's use or the heat they generate.

I always love the random person that posts said picture of their TV or anything rotated 90 degrees so you're left to turn your head to the side.

You mean the 60" one I think. I got in on that deal too. Awesome TV so far and I watch the shit out of it. I bought the magic remote for it which is pretty slick.

How about a Benq HT2050 DLP Projector?

I just bought a new Sony to replace it since the Benq is too short of throw for my HT room, and its far too bright since my room is fully light controlled. Also, It blew a lamp after only 600 hours!

No, ok, I tried ...

Maybe amazon marketplace? You can search by exact model you want and buy a used one there, though it might be more expensive?

I can understand your frustration, OP.

I see a lot of similar issues on Craigslist. There's one that lists that their plasma is specifically "FullHD 1080p" but if you look up the model it isn't. And its only like 42" and they want the same money people are asking for like 58" real 1080p sets.

And I've seen people list the price they paid, and I have to do a double take as that is like double the price of MSRP when the thing was brand new

Bingo.

Their flat tubes were the shit, though.

Weren't Sony's flat tube TVs actually pretty good? Their HD ones were basically the TVs to get until Plasma panels improved if you cared about image quality. And the Trinitron monitors were very sought after (the 24" widescreen one and then their RGB pro monitors being very sought after for a while there).

I'd say "go OLED" but it's probably a year too soon for that.

Plasmas had image retention issues as well. But usually with both them and OLED its just temporary (and a lot of them have built in features to minimize and/or resolve it). I've also seen multiple LCD TVs that had permanent burn-in from tickers and 4:3 black bars. Actually I think I've seen it on RPTVs too and just about all of them also look like you're looking through a foggy window because of the anti-glare coatings (which is weird because it often doesn't actually help, you still end up with blobs of glare and washed out images), or perhaps its the nature of rear projection.

OLED likely would have issues with more permanent burn-in with static image pieces (computer taskbars/etc), and I know it has a higher prevalence of burn-in in mobile devices (but again, people act like LCDs don't and there's plenty of them that have).

Yeah I bet they're like the "SONYA" (no, again, not kidding) ear-plugs from the Chinese dollar store :)

You might have better luck somewhere like AVS Forums. Hope you find one! I love my 10 year old Kuro.

I am looking at a MASSIVE, 60" FullHD (!!!!!) Kuro right now with additional sound bars on the side...for a ridiculous €500!! Best one I saw so far.

I am fully aware of that as energy use was actually my biggest gripe with a Plasma, especially living in Europe where energy costs are through the roof.
BUT.....we are "occasional" watchers, the Plasma would not run all-the-time like a monitor. That gigantic 60" Kuro uses 520W or so..which would be insane...but just for watching a movie every day or so..I think it's not relevant. Different story if it was on all-the time. We don't watch TV, so we're not people who have the TV running all the time.

€300-€500 can get me a 2008 or so 60" Plasma pioneer, panny or samsung if I look long enough. Insane low price.
We don't need all the smart-TV shenanigans crap since we connect right to the PC, this is also why I think that getting a 4K TV like any of these Hisense would be silly.
I would be entirely fine with full-HD, with playback from the PC using KODI etc.

Ironically, even a €500 FullHD Plasma would already be a huge upgrade to my 2008 Samsung since it's only "HD Ready", and this thing cost €1500 back then mainly due to the gimmicky and totally unsatifactory 3D it has. Now with the Rift I also don't need any 3DTV crap. That 60" Kuro REALLY looks very good. I wish the guy would respond to me.
