Oh this is just freaking awesome.
Valve is king. That's it.

I love Valve more and more. If only Steam wasn't an astronomically massive vortex of suck.

As software Steam itself is decent and Valve games are awesome, but their extremely restrictive implementation of DRM and ridiculous policies make Steam crap and a ripoff to gamers.

Steam works well for internet based MP games, but is a pain for single player games when you don't have a reliable internet connection. Impulse is a much better digital distribution system in those cases (since you don't need to have an internet connection to play any game). Offline mode is a joke, in that you can't set it when you actually need it (when your internet connection goes down), you can only set it while connected. I hope that gets fixed at some point, or hopefully already has since I haven't been paying attention to Steam for a while.

You can set offline mode in two ways. When you start Steam and your pc is connected to a router or cable modem, Steam will think there is an active internet connection and will try connecting for a while. Eventually it will ask you if you want to do offline mode. The other method is if you unplug your network cable from your pc, or just disable your network connection, Steam will instantly ask you if you want to play in offline mode.
The hate on Steam is a joke. It's the best thing to happen to PC gaming in years. I'm almost to the point where I would refuse to buy a game that isn't on Steam.

Don't get them fucking started on the Steam DRM diatribe or you will never hear the end of it. They will bitch and moan until their throats go dry and they keel over from exhaustion.
