As Malaria Control winds down, do we quit crunching well before the deadline, so as to give the results time to be validated, or run all the way up to the deadline?

And again, is the last event not going to be announced until the last minute so as to prevent bunkering?

Wow, we had a big hour #10 on Einstein! 😱

Was that GLeeM and/or salvorhardin?

I dumped about 300k worth and had about 60 wus pending.
I'm going to continue on einstein through the race, but will set it to a resource share of 0 so I can have a minimum amount of wus in case the last project is gpu. I'm going to be switching over to yoyo as soon as i'm done with my cache of wcg.

I just skimmed over the FAQ and I came away with the impression that there was to be only one GPU project.

To answer my own question posted earlier, the last race is indeed called the Sprint, and there IS bunkering involved, we are supposed to get a 3 day notice before the event starts, so it should be announced on the...14th?

Nice thing about yoyo ecm (need lots of RAM) and ogr WUs: quorum of 1 so instant points upon completion. 😎 I'm not sure about muon WUs since there's no linux app.

@Tony about malaria: I have very few pending WUs and most (80%) seemed to be validated upon completion. I have 0 cache on malaria so the admins may have done that on purpose after realizing the pentathlon racers grabbed all the WUs 2-3 days before the start? I imagine this race is a real headache for project admins.

Here's a link to the 2014 race schedule (and previous years): Last year the final project started on the 14th. Maybe it will be different this year?

EDIT: Looks like the sprint will be 3 days and a CPU project. link

The BOINC Pentathlon will be performed in 5 different disciplines:

Marathon (CPU, 14 days)
Sprint (CPU, 3 days)
Swimming (CPU, 7 days)
City Run (CPU, 5 days)
Cross Country (GPU, 5 days)

I did not bunker any malaria and only just started after dumping Einstein and WCG, but most of my malaria are NOT validated. One machine had about 50/50 and the other 20/80. I think I will start yoyo soon.

Been having power problems due to a big snowstorm here. (Yes, snow!) I'm currently running only Einstein, as I think my GTX 750ti is more efficient than my main CPU.

It's coming back to me now why I like Yoyo/Muon - my i7 920 does well on Muon. Just a little behind the Hazwells. On most projects the 920 is quite a bit behind.

I always try to find the best fit!

Are you still think about dropping a xeon hex-core into that system?

I'm toying with the idea of ubying a used 2 x hex-core workstation like this.

Tony, what's your experience with your used workstations you bought lately?

Tony, what's your experience with your used workstations you bought lately?

Squeaky fan here and there, limited space for modern (tall) graphics card, one PSU is a bit weak and gets unstable running multiple WU's on the GPU, but dropping it to one WU (70% utilization) stabilizes it.

.

The nice thing about putting a hex in place of my 920 would be that I could OC it as high or higher than the 920.

I've heard those chips overclock nicely.

I'm assuming overclocking is not an option with workstations from HP or Dell.🙁

This one is at 3.46 GHz

It's getting kind of pricey though for a used machine though.

I'm skipping YoYo, sticking with Malaria to the end, then will see whether...

Gentlemen, I sincerely apologize, I feel that I single-handedly lost us 6-9 points on Malaria Control by over-thinking 😕 and pulling out of the City Run far too soon, thinking we could coast in with the yet-to-be-validated results. :$

I should have been practicing the baton pass rather than planning the next assault.

I tossed in about 120K points for Malaria, but I won't be running Einstein since I don't have any GPUs and the CPU client doesn't suspend when told to and I can only run projects that will suspend when the BOINC manager tells them to (when the computers are being used) or Yoyo because I got bored with that one after pushing hard to get points for the Formula 2015 race. I don't really want to run WCG either since some of the projects play nice and some don't and the system sometimes ignores my request to not get work from the misbehaving apps. So I'm not sure what I want to do for the rest of this race...

We've picked up 3 points on yoyo and more to come now that Tony's on yoyo.

EDIT: Another 3 points! 🙂

I have my computers running WCG and hope they don't download work for apps that do not play nice with others. I'll have to turn it off if the apps refuse to suspend and interfere with people trying to work..
