Sorry, I didn't mean to rush you. For some reason I though we had already, and was concerned the registration may have been lost or some such.

No probs. I try to keep ahead of things.
And it is necessary to discuss voting in such projects ...
I'll also change around the dates of the Trophy Belt Race so theses two races don't collide!

Yupp, WCG all the time and the other projects for limited times only.
One possibility is to run WCG all the time and the GPU-project during the time that is on, or to run the CPU-projects consecutively ... We may have to discuss our tactics a little ... But just now I am too tired to thing clearly.
It is 10 minutes before mignight here ... 😉

Alright, so someone who has done this before, fill us in please.
OK, yeah 🙁
Off to a late start already?
When did they announce that WCG was the project?
It is allowed and encouraged to bunker WUs - that is crunch them now and upload results after the race starts.

Which sub project of WCG has the longest WUs?
Is the deadline > 5 days?
Can we download enough WUs to last 5 days?

I only checked today, not sure when it was announced. I like cheating! errr, bunkering!

I guess bunkering should start now, but doesn't actually start until the 5th. I haven't done WCG in a bit, but I remember Cancer Curing to be the longest work units a few months back, and am not sure of the deadlines but remember always worrying that they'd time out, as WCG seemed to send more than I asked for.

The nearest deadline is the 8th of May.

Clean Energy takes up to 14 hours on my old Xeon's and i7 920.
Mapping Cancer Markers takes 8 hours on same machines.
Uncovering Gnome Mysteries: 4 hours.
AIDS: less than an hour

EDIT: Looks like we have both forum-active members and many "silent members" who will be helping out tremendously, we currently have a RAC of nearly 120k a day. 🙂

So far I haven't been able to build a cache of work on my 1090T. Maybe the racers have already grabbed a big chunk of the work from the servers. I can't seem to find server status on WCG. Does it exist?

I have 8 WUs of mapping cancer markers and 6 are in progress. Boinc says I've reached limit of tasks in progress and no work available for the other projects I've selected.😡

Next project was announced:

City Run
malariacontrol.net
from 05/07/2015, 0:00 UTC
to 05/12/2015, 0:00 UTC

I started my Android devices on WCG last night. My tablet's special super charger seems to be broken, but I can run at least one thread (instead of four) with a normal charger. Can't really buffer on Android, though, so I'll just have to hope my wingmen are slow.

Never tried MalariaControl - any tips?

No, Ken_g6. Sert and forget ... and sometimes they run out of WUs ...
I'll set MalariaControl @ 100 and one other project @30 ... then, if I run out of WUs in MC I'll crunch the other one ...

Any thoughts on strategy? Or should we just "wing it" like we usually do? 🙂

I'm crunching WCG with network sturned off on my 1090T and 2600K. I'm working on building a cache on my 3930K to do the same.

I guess the easiest strategy is to crunch WCG for the entire race unless a CPU project pops up where there is interest. When the gpu project is announced then I'll jump in to build a cache and dump. Any thoughts on what the GPU project will be this year?

I figure I'll leave my Android devices on WCG. (I did get that other charger working, by the way.) My computers I'll probably try to switch to the other projects.

Me too. I think I have enough WUs to get to the fifth.

When on the fifth central time zone does it start?

Can I make it until then without stats?

Not too long to wait I think. 🙂

The race starts 00:00 UTC on May 5th so I think that is 7 PM CDT (central daylight time) May 4th according to the UTC converter I used.😵

I think I'll wait until I see confirmation from the Pentathlon website though!😛

My phone is now telling me there are no tasks available for Android. 🙁

Einstein@home is the 3rd event, starts on the 9th.

Wee bit of overlap, eh laddies?

Yeah, that is one of the characteristics of the Pentathlon - overlappning races. OTOH: Einstein has GPU-WUs too ... and those can, of course, run concurrently with any CPU-WUs.

Start at 00:00 UTC tomorrow - 16 hours from now. Hoarding ...

I have a sneaking suspicion that they will generate more WU's. 😉 Like the (Doritos?) commercial says, crunch all you want, we'll make more.

Worst case scenario, this makes it easy to run this race, as we now don't have to choose between WCG and malaria control. 😀
