nemisis, the op in the link you gave us is running a hand picked cherry bin processor.

You can never count these as normal processors. Its like taking a general production USA civic, and comparing it with a JDM Civic thats still wearing its cover shields still in testing phase.

ES processors always carry a big tag of YMMV. Because ES will either do better, same or worse. Its your luck of the draw, and yoxxy can tell you exactly why in bigger detail.

But you never say a chip can do what a ES shows. At best its a very very rough ballpark of the cpu's potential.

Also if you've owned a good hand picked ES chip, you'd understand.

I read the post. I know what he said. I haven't ever Had a cherry. My wife got one tho along with M/B . and it is better than mine . Just befor I feel I can't go much more I will reveal all. I held some records for a very very long time with P4C . No reviews even come close to it . NOT even close. I have my reasons . When I reveal all. Many will than understand.

LOL... the moment you said chilled water... yeah i know your not a typical newbie.

But you should know about hand pick processors. :

Fugger's cherry picked QX9650 <no comment>
Fugger's hand picked dual QX9775 <no comment>
Fugger's bah.. you get the idea...

The guy is running a chip of the same calibur to fugger's chips. Not really fair to throw up in comparison. Its like telling someone on air to reproduce what people on phase do. :T

Yes I know it was hand picked. The point is It was available. Luck of the Draw. I suspect that most review chips are hand picked. Yes we all know its luck of draw. Even if its hand picked its not a special cpu. It came off the Fab line just like the rest.

LOL . In that survey. I didn't think the 8 Wolfs running at 4.6GHz was as Odd as the The ones that couldn't do 3.6 ghz and lower. To many O/C out their just pushing in the Voltage. Your suppose to go Up in small steps.

I seen the Thread @ Xs. Jaredpace started not bad at all. There were a couple I believe that showed 4.5+ stable . 8hrs prime stable the thing that still sticks out is the differances in Volts to achieve it. Water /Air and 1 phaze LOL. That guy was rude but in the end it came right back at him.

Here is the last review Kyle did using LOW RES . as it should be. This is on Intel chipset. He also has one for the NV chipset. But I don't know if its for AMD or INTEL . The min. I see NV . I don't waste my time.

http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/...wxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

I wish Kyle would have used a differant chip. But it shows 2000FSB on a 1.86GHz @ 3.0GHz. The problem with this is. Did it run out of FSB or was that CPU at its limit. UNKNOWN.

I was wrong. I never even completed any 8 hour orthos at any speed with this chip. but i did boot at 4.68ghz. And i've played crysis at 4.4ghz for hours..

It's really too frustrating overall. i think anything below 4.2 is the least headache you can achieve with this chip with being stable, unless your are an extreme overclocker or suicide bencher with other forms of cooling besides air. Maybe we will see an 8 hour dual prime screenshot with air cooling. I don't know and i don't feel like trying anymore.

Maybe my attempt at 4.5g prime will encourage others to try for a higher OC. like jag87 said, beware of volts & temps

I should just at least try to find my 6-8hour maximum before i sell this thing.... however, I have a feeling it's going to be less than 4.3ghz

Best of luck to everyone who is attempting 4ghz + prime runs on these chips. They will still clock a ton higher than 65nm or quads, but I don't think the average guy is going to see 4.5 for 24/7 unless your on some extreme cooling or have an e8500. And really whats the diff in 4.2 and 4.5? LOL it's not worth the troulbe except to have bragging rights.

A sensible OC of 4.05 or 4.1 is a lot more practical.

finally a somewhat reasonable post from you. the only fallacy i can find is that you think having an e8500 over an e8400 will provide more headroom, which is wrong, both chips have roughly the same ceiling, and its the type of cooling that you use that really makes the difference.

Anyone buying an E8400 should be more than happy with a 4.0 - 4.2 ghz overclock with safe voltage.

i can show you screens of 8 hours prime at 4.5 on an e8500 - edit: not on air ;(

with less than 1.45v? right on, im waiting...

more than 1.45v? then I don't really care. It's not a safe 24/7 setup and it's just a suicide prime run that has now shortened the cpu's life by 6 months. Do it a few more times and by the end of the year you will have a nice ornament for your next christmas tree.

edit: even on water. if you have 4.5 ghz with <1.45v eight hour prime stable, id like to see it.

have 12 months passed since its release? no, barely a few weeks, so how can I show you a dead wolfdale?

I can show you 3 dead yorkfields that were ran with 1.8v, 1.9v, and 2.1v. One belongs to victor wang, one to coolaler, and and one to stoolman.

Obviously these were sudden deaths from high voltage, but any voltage above 1.45v is considered not safe by intel, and I trust them, not you.

"The point is that, 1.25v and below you are in the green zone, 1.45v and below you are in the yellow zone, anything above 1.45v you are in the red zone. Green zone = way more than its useful lifetime, yellow zone = enough to outlive its useful lifetime, red zone = might make it, might not.

Thats my interpretation."

I'd say you're right.

rofl rofl..

JAG he grew up fast... now he thinks he's a expert overclocker. :T

Oh jared ask in XS that question about dead QX9650s dying at high voltage. You'll get a few yes.

Oh those are the people on XS that JAG just called. LOL... :T

And about max safe Vcore, 1.45Vcore id say would be under water... :T

lets see, the only picture that shows any minimal sign of stability (3d mark 2001, you cant even call that stability really), is running 4Ghz at 1.424v, and what's his excuse? that its running on 780i. LMAO give me a break noob.

so running the chip in bonetrail magically yields 4.9 Ghz at 1.412v? if you knew anything at all, you would know that its the same POS board as 780i, cheap 6 phase power and electrolytic capacitors.

so a whole GHZ more just because of the northbridge! wow! look how badly photo shopped that CPU-z screen is...

why am I wasting my time again sigh

djsmith...

as JAG states, you only know half of it....

Jared used to PM us with tons of questions regarding simple things in overclocking. Now he comes back and tries to TEACH one of his teachers. Thats why JAG is kinda irritated.

Also smith, when you own the amount of hardware, both high end and low end as JAG, and a couple others, this type of tone is always present, because most of the time its from people who over estimates facts or tells hypothetical comments without any form of support.

And yes i also talk like this, and JAG and i had our head clashes b4, but to both of us, you want us to shut up and respect you more...

if you talk about hypothetical anything, or something we see as being BS, the only way to make us quiet down is show proof.

Thats all anyone has to do is show PROOF. That will usually result in just 1 additional post of us going WOW, or Nice OC.. or Very impressive... and end....

Has someone done it so far? NO... thats why were jumping on everyone right now.

I didn't say I wanted you to shut up & respect me more...I said I don't like the way he was talking to other people & being condesending...But now that you've provided more information, hey, if the 3 of you want to knock each other's heads off, have at it...

I don't like seeing people being condesending & that's what I saw...I didn't see anyone else stepping up to the plate to change the scenery, so I did...

I could care less about who's overclocking more or less or whatever...That doesn't matter to me & that's not why I responded...My post wasn't directed at you anyway, so I don't know why you referenced "both of us"...

So, basically this all comes down to an ego thing. So take it to yahoo instant messenger or something. You can hack off as many heads there as you all need to.

This thread may be locked anyway for FUD contamination prevention.

the point is that I generally do not act like that. I am usually the first one to crack a joke, and make people laugh, its been said a million times. but with some people I turn into an asshole, simply because of how they behave or how they have treated me in the past.

right now, there are very few people that are on my nerves here at AT. one of these is nemesis1, so naturally my posts towards him are going to be on the heavy side. you commented on that, and I simply told you not to do that since you don't know the reason behind my behavior.

and don't mind aigomorla, hes just trying to defend me because he knows how much grief certain people give me. he knows because hes been in the same situations.

Fair enuf...I've seen a few people being condesending towards others around here lately & I don't like it...Especially when it's towards the younger crowd...So I get a bit defensive & say something...Especially when nobody else is saying anything...So that's where I'm coming from...

As mentioned above, the 3 of you guys have a history of this kind of back & forth battle, so I let it be...We can let it rest now...

Nice system, btw...But I think you should throw some more RAM at it...lol :D
