Yea that one really got me and then I reseatched it more as well. They are no healthy for you then regular grown stuff. It's marketing plain and simple. Like the other thread we had about organic foods. Many people said it's just your head making you think it tastes better to justify buying it. I've never bought organic and never will.

I think I'd be able to tell they were the same banana, or at least tasted the same. I'm pretty objective with my food purchases. I probably would have rejected both apples, as I imagine they were Red Delicious. If they were a decent variety, grown with equal care, I imagine they'd taste the same.

Well yea but that's not the point of the video. The point is to debunk that Organic is healthier, tastes better, helps the small farmer, helps the earth, and all that crap and none of it is true. If you want to help your small farmer, go buy at a local farmer's market. Don't go to a grocery store to buy it.

I also think one of the biggest problems, is that propaganda is so effective, and many will not take the time to research any given subject. Particularly if the information comes from someone they know and respect, they just except it as fact.

If they are tasting a difference, it is likely for the reasons stated in the episode, about higher quality control emphasis, not needing to travel far to market, and thus being fresher. With the added benefit of requiring less resources from farm to your basket.

Maybe there's too many people on the planet, and trying to take care of all of them isn't the best course of action in the long term.

I am a little resentful of bottled water. I don't like paying for something that tastes about the same as what I get from my tap. I do buy carbonated mineral water though.

Penn went on to describe "a new study that came out of England, just recently, that seems to have more stuff about it" and "right now, as I sit here, there probably is danger in secondhand smoke." He went on to say that this was a small portion of the program, and their main point was their opposition to "outlawing" smoking in privately-owned businesses, which they still "stand behind 100%."[20]

Robert Todd Carroll, author of The Skeptic's Dictionary, originally sided with the show's conclusion that there was no link between secondhand smoke and cancer. But Carroll changed his conclusions after further investigation into the studies. Carroll concluded that the studies were biased, and consequently decided that secondhand smoke does have negative effects on people.[21]

The problem with objectivity is that it doesn't work with consumer goods. People have different tastes and tolerences. Some of the tap water I've been subjected to I can actually smell before I drink it. And then when you do actually taste it...bleh. What's wrong with me wanting to buy something because it simply tastes better than a cheaper alternative? If everything was objective then we'd all be eating sirloin instead of strip, filet, or ribeye.

psychology has more to do with the taste tests than the actual fruit that was taste tested.

you could have painted a piece of shit to make it look like a banana and said it was organic and they'd still say it tasted better than the genetically modified banana. your brain dictates how things taste to you.

why is it that one girl can go and eat oysters and not have a problem doing that, but the texture of a blown load in her mouth makes her gag? it's because of psychology.

some penn and teller shows are bullshit. by profession, they're great at convincing people of things that they want them to. they find the least knowledgeable people and non-progressive to represent the views of the thing they're criticizing, thus making their arguments far more convincing.

there's a whole list of things that they consider "bullshit" and i'm sure that they make a convincing argument on their shows, too... because they do what fox news does all the time, which is find nutjobs or idiots to defend what they are trying to slam. and seeing how laypeople don't know the difference between good solid journalism and manipulative tactics, they eat it up.
