The vacating of records means nothing. The NCAA should've shut down their entire athletic program and fuck penn st over for good.
I've got mixed feelings about this. For one thing, almost everyone associated with the whole coverup has already "left" so it's not really affecting them. This is really hurting the students instead. For at least 1 generation if not 2, people will always remember Penn State as that school that supports pedos. Imagine if you're in your junior or senior year and you don't give a shit about football or know anything about the football program and now this shit will be hanging over your head.
What really needs to be done is they need to take everyone involved with the coverup/pedo shit and hang them high. And the whiny bitches that support Paterno need to be slapped in the face (or falcon punched, I'm good with either).
This. I'm really surprised it got to this point. It's one thing to punish those responsible, but now they are basically going after the school monetarily and ruining the reputation of Penn State in general.

IMHO the NCCA is a bunch of pussies. They needed to nuke the program for 5 years. To say that covering up rape is only worth 60 million is a joke. The only thing they got right is nuking the wins for JoePa lol
wow slightly harsher then i thought it would be.the 60mil is more then i thought but they are allowing 10 scholarships (i said no) and no bowls for 4 years (i figured 2).
but by far the worst thing i see is all wins from 98-2011 vacated? bwhahahahah oh man i wish joePA was alive to see this!
they are!? woo! awesome.
Penn State must also reduce 10 initial and 20 total scholarships each year for a four-year period.

NCAA fail. Considering what Penn St did this is a slap on the wrist. They did the minimum not to look bad to the sheeple out there. 30 million to this school is pennies, a 3 year bowl ban is pretty laughable for the crimes they committed.
It's $60m, and a quick google search seems to point at the university having ~$1b in debt. In other words, this judgment is very significant to their financials.
what good would nuking it for 5 yrs do? who would it punish? Nobody who had anything to do with it.
personally i think the punishment is damn near perfect.
a) 60 mil is going to hurt (and it goes to set up a fund for victims of child molestations) but not going to kill the school.
b) reducing the number of scholarships not huge so kinda meh.
c) no bowls for 4 years. that hurts. Football programs live and die from it. Now no huge names are going to go. why go if you aren't going to get exposure from bowl games?
d) allowing kids to transfer with no penalties. Woo!
e) 5 yrs of supervision.
f) vacating jopa's wins. this sends a message to other coaches that sacrificing kids for a win won't work. The NCAA will vacate them and make it worthless. NOTHING besides this really effects the coach's out now.
Nuking the program will get rid of the culture. The culture is anyone that is fan, businesses that made money, the faculty, and students and players of the game. You are not getting rid of the culture with only fines. They still get to play and you still will have fans that will support the culture. What the NCCA did is like pissing in the wind. Everyone who supported PSU football had a hand in it.
Wait, I thought it was losing 20 scholarships (10 initially)? From ESPN:

Link to 1 Bil in debt? I thought their endowment was 2 billion in the black at least.

to say EVERYONE who supported PSU football had a hand in it is idiotic. The students who cheered for the team, the players etc had NOTHING to do with it. the people that did? sundusky, jopa, etc. oh and they are either in jail or dead.
Yep, taking Paterno's wins was the most important part of this. So who's number one now, Bowden?
The fine should have been bigger but meh. 4 year Bowl ban is perfectly fine with me. While it could have been more severe, this is a huge blow since their football games will mean shit in the grand scheme (i.e. PLAYOFFS!) of things for the next four years unless they upset someone. What'd be cool is if PSU beat a contender during these four years is that it wouldn't count (i.e. just the same as a scrimmage). But you can't get everything I suppose.
They practically did. In terms of harshness, it's very close to what SMU got i think.
I think the punishment seems about right, and certainly more harmful than the death penalty would have been. There are limits to how much financial damage it makes sense to do to PSU since the victims will still be suing and seeking huge damages.
Everyone who supported PSU football had a hand in it.
So you're saying that since when I was a 13 year old kid I bought a Penn State football jacket - I am responsible for the actions of Jerry Sandusky? Grow up.
