Considering in the poll i just showed, the overwhelming majority of Americans still have a positive view of Paterno, and the overwhelming majority of them are obviously straight, maybe it's the straights that are fucked in the head.
Hold on a minute. The poll you just showed is a voluntary poll from people who are visiting a webpage dedicated to sports news; that's hardly a representative sample of all Americans.

Ok well, it does say something about your average red blooded male American sports fan.

The way it needs to be viewed,

39% of Americans would still invite their son's football coach to dinner if his assistant coach was caught fucking their son in the ass.

33% of Americans would go back and forth between whether or not to invite their son' football coach to dinner if his assistant coach was caught fucking their son in the ass.

28% of Americans would definitely not invite their son' football coach to dinner if his assistant coach was caught fucking their son in the ass.

I would just like to hear a person of respectability like Anderson Cooper make a statement.

If Jerry Sandusky were to make a statement saying that he has done some soul-searching while in the lockup and now wants to proclaim that he is gay, that would blow this scandal sky high.

It wouldn't blow the scandal anywhere, as gay =/= pedophile.

Cooper came out TEN DAYS AGO, but now he's a 'representative of the community'? I'll ask again: have you verified the sexuality of everyone who has spoken out against this.

Yea its probably representative of the male population.

Statistically speaking, American males favorably view a complicit behavior towards facilitating the rape of young boys.

that poll should first ask "are you aware of the freeh report and it's contents", and then ask them how they feel about Joe Paterno.

Penn State's football program should be shut down for several years - period.

This is the worst thing that's ever taken place at an NCAA football program - worse than all the other 'violations' put together.

Let all current players transfer - scholarships intact and still paid for by Penn St, and give schools accepting players a couple of 'over the limit' special exemptions.

Existing coaching staff still gets paid the rest of their contract by Penn St.

Fans that have paid for tickets, single game or season-ticket holders, get full refunds.

Local businesses get some compensation from Penn St as well.

In their upcoming press release reaction to the Freeh Report, Penn State officials will state that they will not tear down Paterno's statue. However, they'll be turning it around so he can look the other way.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nike-taking-paternos-name-off-172236514--ncaaf.html

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) -- The president of Nike Inc. says he has decided to change the name of the Joe Paterno Child Development Center, a child care facility at the company's headquarters.

CEO Mark Parker said Thursday he was deeply saddened by the news coming of the Louis Freeh investigation on the child sex abuse scandal at Penn State. Freeh says Paterno and other top school officials disregarded the welfare of Jerry Sandusky's victims as they failed to report abuse allegations against the longtime assistant coach.

Says Parker: ''It is a terrible tragedy that children were unprotected from such abhorrent crimes.''

Nike founder Phil Knight, who defended Paterno at the coach's memorial service, says ''it appears Joe made missteps that led to heartbreaking consequences.''

Reality is starting to set in for the Joepa defenders.

I read that last night. WTF how can the family release it? it seems as if they don't understand what is going on. They are acting like one of the football players was busted for cheating on a test. not having JoPa cover up child mollestation.

The letter also shows that he didn't get it either. It shows how he only cares for the football program and fuck everything else.

are they using Sandusky's lawyer?

:D

The only lesson learned by the other schools will likely be "cover up harder next time!" There's simply too much money involved.

why? Covering up is how this happened. EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS that had these asshats reported this on the spot--not a single one of them would have been culpable. Not a god damn one.

PSU would be fine--fuck, these guys would have been heroes had they done the right thing and nailed Sandusky to the wall in 2001.

I finally support the PedoState moniker.

I wrote four letters to the presidents and athletic directors of Michigan and Wisconsin asking them to consider expelling PSU football from the Big Ten after reading the entire Freeh Report. That program is a stain on the conference and I don't want my schools to have anything to do with it.

We really need to put colleges back in the business of educating people instead of making money. Their priorities are all out of whack. And no more free rides to players.

IF they would have come out and turned the fucking child mollester in and came out against such behavor it would have been very very minor.

Now? fuck they covered it up and more children got raped. THE head of the Football program talked the PRESIDENT of the college into NOT turning him in.

WTF!

i have sympathy for the people this is going to effect. they had nothing to do with it yet they are going to be the ones paying. sad situation.

Seems like there's a pattern emerging with Joepa:

Oh holy shit, Bomani Jones on OTL just now: Joe Paterno, 10 years ago, when black students were being sent death threats, said he would never do anything that would cause bad publicity to be shown upon Penn State.

Yep, Curley/Spanier/Schultz were going to notify 2nd Mile and the police about Sandusky until after Curley talked to Joepa who convinced him to only talk to Sandusky.

someone is butt hurt they had zero athletic ability in their younger days....

Do you have any idea how much money some of these programs make? Where do you think they get the money for their other athletic programs?

Abolishing athletic scholarships is an idiotic idea.

The vast majority of athletics programs lose money. Also, many schools that have 'profitable' programs also charge athletics fees that aren't counted.
