not to mention a child molester with 40 victims that was covered up it tends to make the news.

Yup, it wasn't just a single kid. It was scores, maybe even hundreds. They are just starting to unravel how far the tentacles go. The fact this happened to a top 10 revenue producing school with the winning-ist NCAA coach in history only adds to the disbelief and emotion of this story that transcends city and state boundaries.

Not sure why this is a "huge" story to anyone outside of PSU

Sex and football. Two of our most favorite obsessions. I didn't mention alcohol, drugs and firearms since they haven't come up yet in the investigation.

This is and is going to be in public eye as long as the Catholic church priest abuse story was and is. It never really went away did it? People are that outraged because a lot of them are parents and all they can see is their little boy pinned in the shower by a old man being raped and everyone at the college just turning a blind eye to it hoping that Sandusky would just stop doing it some day. That didn't happen either did it?

So what are these new rumors floating around:

""I hear there's a rumor that there will be a more shocking development from the Second Mile Foundation -- and hold on to your stomachs, boys, this is gross, I will use the only language I can -- that Jerry Sandusky and Second Mile were pimping out young boys to rich donors. That was being investigated by two prominent columnists even as I speak."

metaphorically speaking, you have massive institutional corruption that has been known and talked about for decades, exposed under the most deplorable of criminal acts, an entire community essentially enabling the ability of such an institution to be lead down this route--all of it, more or less, crumbling under the age and senility of the community paragon, a national paragon, very much a legend in his own field, who was allowed to control everything under and above his purvey.

It is one of the most epic dismantlings of an infallible leader. It engages the often-debated power and money dynamics that have so profoundly altered the University culture of the USA, and directly challenges the validity of University dependence on internal institutions and their self-governing, self-profiting practices.

When you let the beast go, to grow at-will and supersede your own internal command structure--as PSU long did with Paterno--you expose yourself to this kind of corruption.

It is a truly amazing story, even beyond the vileness of the crimes committed.

http://www.nesn.com/2011/11/jerry-s...ung-boys-to-rich-donors-says-mark-madden.html

In April, Pittsburgh radio host Mark Madden wrote a story revealing Penn State for much of the cover-up of Jerry Sandusky's alleged child rape that has been exposed in the past week. While it didn't raise many eyebrows back then, six months later it looks to be incredibly accurate.

On Thursday morning, just hours after legendary head coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier were fired by the school's board of trustees, Madden was asked on The Dennis and Callahan Show what he believes the next piece of news will be.

What he said was twice as shocking as anything that's been released thus far.

"I can give you a rumor and I can give you something I think might happen," Madden told John Dennis and Gerry Callahan. "I hear there's a rumor that there will be a more shocking development from the Second Mile Foundation -- and hold on to your stomachs, boys, this is gross, I will use the only language I can -- that Jerry Sandusky and Second Mile were pimping out young boys to rich donors. That was being investigated by two prominent columnists even as I speak."

After the news spread, Madden later explained via Twitter why he went public with the rumors.

"I normally abhor giving RUMORS credence," Madden wrote. "But whole Sandusky scandal started out as a RUMOR. It gets deeper and more disgusting all the time. One of state's top columnists investigating. That adds credence. I am NOT rumor's original source. [Why does] Sandusky deserve benefit of doubt?"

Madden also spoke more definitively on Dennis and Callahan to the cover-up efforts at the school and beyond that he expects will be made public soon.

"The other thing I think that may eventually become uncovered, and I talked about this in my original article back in April, is that I think they'll find out that Jerry Sandusky was told that he had to retire in exchange for a cover-up," Madden said. "If you look at the timeline, that makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

"My opinion is when Sandusky quit, everybody knew -- not just at Penn State," Madden added. "I think it was a very poorly kept secret about college football in general, and that is why he never coached in college football again and retired at the relatively young age of 55. [That's] young for a coach, certainly.

Nice huh?

yeah, it's crazy. It's also been posted--with 15 minute radio interview, about 5 times today, now. heh.

it's important to remind people, though, that this issue of using 2nd Mile as a Pedo Pimp service is merely rumor at this point. I think it's rather disingenuous to start tossing things out there as part of normal news reporting (not that the interview was such, but as part of the media, and especially when this is in print).

Gonna cost them >100M $$$.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/11/09/bernstein-you-must-read-the-grand-jury-report/

By Dan Bernstein-
CBSChicago.com Senior Columnist

(CBS) The Devil is in the details.

They hurt to read, I won’t lie to you. You cannot un-know them or un-see them. You will stop multiple times in the 23 pages of the grand jury report, needing to avert your eyes or shudder.

But you have to do it. You have to read every word, every sickening description and every name involved in the institutionalized evil at Penn State. Your opinion about anything going on is invalid if you have not yet done so.

Here it is. Read it.

You are simply not allowed to say “I don’t want to,” or “I can’t handle it.” Jerry Sandusky’s victims and their families endured – and continue to endure — unspeakable horror.

The least you can do is be as informed as possible about the hideousness in Happy Valley. It will sear your soul, and it’s your obligation to confront the truth at its most real and painful. Relying on watered-down characterization of the acts is a cop-out.

Here it is. Read it.

This is not a Sex Scandal, as TV graphics scream. This is not a college football scandal, to be compared and contrasted with point-shaving, cash to recruits or swag traded for tats. This is a deep, ongoing conspiracy to conceal and abet child abuse by a state-run university.

Read about the victim-farm Sandusky created in 1977 (!) under the veil of charity, cultivating vast fields of potential prey. See with your own eyes what he did and how he did it, then have a thought.

Do not dare to call a radio show, send an email, post on social media, or comment at the conclusion of this column until you have taken the time to read every word. Until you do, nothing you think or say matters one iota.

Here it is. Read it.

Familiarize yourself with the unimaginable cowardice of Mike McQueary. Know what Joe Paterno knew, and had to know. Learn about standard operating procedure at the school’s highest levels, and the sway held by football. Inhumane crimes were occurring deep in the hills of Pennsylvania, and merciless men ensured that they would continue unchecked.

Most importantly, we must stop with comfortable euphemisms that ease the pain of confronting these brutal crimes. This is not “horseplay,” or “inappropriate acts,” or even “sodomy.” It’s worse. We have a solemn responsibility to expose these infections to sunlight, trying as hard as we can to understand as much as we can.

You will not think as you did before. You saw the idiot students chanting football cheers last night on Paterno’s lawn, and have heard from the cult of apologists. You will want to kill all of them.

You will want Sandusky torn to shreds by animals behind bars.

Here it is. Read it.

You may feel as I do, wishing you actually believed in Hell.

Sandusky could be facing charges in TX too, as one of the alleged victims is alleging that abuse occurred at the 1998 (or maybe 1999) Cotton Bowl.

thing i am wondering is this, did he all of a sudden just start doing this in the late 90's or is this something he has been doing all his life? and if all his life i wonder how many more victims are going to come forward?

MSNBC is also reporting that Paterno has hired a criminal defense attorney in anticipation of possible criminal charges and civil lawsuits.

I doubt that one wakes up when they are in their 50s and say 'hmm think I'll start raping some kids today'. I bet this has been going on for a very long time to some extent. Maybe he got more brazen as his power grew.

Why? How does it affect them?

Their furor is driven by the mass media.

I don't follow the media. I read the report and have just had conversations about what happened.

My reiteration is that its disgusting that anyone with knowledge of what happened or power to stop it did nothing!

I don't give a shit about Paterno or the university. If this was random people from some company that I'd never heard of I'd still be just as upset.

Now that Paterno and Spanier are gone I really wish the media would start focusing on the actual monster in the case, Sandusky. Literally none of the media outlets are covering him.

Haha, good luck with that. All the media, all the outrage and multiple thread and 20+ pages per thread in Anandtech and many other forum, exist only because JoePa is one of the top figure in football and PSU is one of the top state school.

Nobody is gonna give a damn if the story were Sandusky. Don't you get it yet? There are tons of people out there with their sad and pathetic life and seeing famous and successful people getting smeared and taken down gives them the satisfaction to be able to say hey those people aren't better then me.

Hey who gives a fvck if there was investigation years before JoePa even heard about what Sandusky did and there was no case. Who gives a fvck if JoePa took immediate action to bring the matter to people who should handle it. Who gives a fvck JoePa was not the perpetrator and didn't witness the incident personally. He is automatically guilty because Sandusky is a long time staff of his. He is the most successful football coach and America just have the culture of enjoying successful people fail.
