Pelosi sets the Donald off live.

Pretty clear that he wanted to put on a show and try throwing Pelosi and Schumer off their game. It didn't work and Trump has explicitly pre-owned the possible (probable?) partial government shutdown.

I think also this meeting is where Pence finally realized he will never be president.

I don't think the next two years are going to be anything like the last two for him:

Amazingly I think Trump, unintentionally, just did Pelosi a huge solid here. This interaction is bound to strengthen her grip on the caucus and also her position as speaker.

He also now owns the shutdown entirely. Of course he will blame the democrats and they will believe him but he just owned it on live TV.

So, it sounds like Trump's new thing is going to be when he doesn't get funding for the wall is to just claim the wall has already been built?

No, where there is a wall he made up lies to justify it (which Pelosi as much as called him on) and said that if he didn't get what he wanted the way he wanted it he'd fuck the nation. Not the exact words, but yeah.

I was surprised to find that Chuck had a voice and good for him. The Dems came out ahead, the Reps now own any adverse consequences and the public is screwed. Joy/s

Oh, I think Pense was somewhere climbing Candy Mountain. Yul Brenner in the original "Westworld" had more life to his expressions.

Pence was the best part of this thing (besides Chuck and Nancy making occasional glances at each other with a "can you fucking believe this shit?" looks on their faces). Pence though... man, what a complete waste of skin. He's entirely useless. At least Trump has an opinion and is fiery about it. Pence just sits there and thinks "what would Mother think about this?"

This just illustrates something that's always been true of the Trump administration: he could only really tolerate being President so long as all of the legislative branch was under his control. "What, you mean I can't demand mindless loyalty from Congress?" He's going to be in for a rough two years if he thinks the Democrats are going to bend.

Also, while I'm frequently annoyed by the Democrat old guard of people like Pelosi and Schumer... good on them. They made it clear that any obstinacy is Trump's fault, and they knew how to show just how childish and incompetent Trump is. You can imagine the GOP quaking in fear that the Democrats will get Trump to say something on-camera they can't just gloss over, like racist slurs or a string of profanities.

Lindsay Grahm is somewhere complaining that Pelosi and Schumer won't take a DACA deal for wall money and for Trump to do whatever it takes to get it (the wall).

President Dumbass had that deal done last year then pissed backwards when prompted by the immigration hardline who want to zero out the system.

Apparently they don't, so blame Dems in the Senate when you shut down the govt. Because reasons & shit.

Trump screwed this up big. He was trying to pin the shutdown on Senate Democrats but then got goaded into taking full ownership of it, and because of his pride was not able to back down from it. Trump tried to play politics with Schumer and Pelosi and got rolled by experienced masters of the game.

Expect SHS to try walking this back this afternoon, by tomorrow Trump will be claiming he never said any of that.

I'd like to see her try. Kind of hard to walk back “I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it,”

I mean sure she can try but...

One note, at the end Trump when talks about how they have so many people that want the job of WH Chief of Staff, did you get the impression what he was really saying is that he can't find a single candidate willing to take the job? It really sounded like a fishing story, 'I caught so many fish, you wouldn't believe how many fish I caught, and the biggest fish!'

It is not the first time she has been asked to stand before the press and attempt the impossible. It is going to be fun to see what excuse she trumps up (heh) this time.
