Pediatricians push for hot dogs to get warning label

Hot dogs may soon join the dangerous company of products that carry a warning label. But it won't point out the unhealthful amounts of fat, salt and preservatives they contain.
The American Academy of Pediatrics wants a label cautioning parents that the ballpark staple poses a choking hazard to young children, according to USA Today. The academy also would like to see the franks "redesigned" so that they would be less likely to stick in a kid's throat.

I heard about this on news earlier this evening. Hot dogs do not need to be redesign or need a warning label for choking hazard. If they put a choking hazard warning label on hot dogs, they should be put on other foods that can be choking hazards as well. Parents just need to teach their children to chew their food properly.

The whole mania for "warning labels" on everything from cell phones (don't use them while driving) to hotdogs, to hairspray is mildly amusing, at best.

I once had a blow dryer with a warning that read "DO NOT USE WHILE SLEEPING." I think perhaps they were concerned that people might use it as a space heater while asleep, but who could sleep with that racket anyway?

Over the XMas holiday while at my Bros, I noticed a crossed out scissors symbol on the electrical cord to his Razors recharging unit. I chuckled and wondered who TF needs to know that?

Not saying this applies to you (or your bro), but in Britain it's been legal - and perhaps still is - for end-users to cut off the power plug of a continental European appliance and screw on a proprietary British plug on the cord...

Problem with that is that if you're an idiot and do that with many razors today you actually cut off the battery charger of the device and instead of say ~5V DC you pipe 230V AC straight into your razor. Hilarity (and not to mention fire, mayhem) ensues!

Hence the reason for these labels on razors...

I leave it to you if you can accept a certain number of fatalities every year caused by this.

We essentially have choke proof hot-dogs, they are called Balogna slices. I'd have to do a lit search but I would be surprised if anyone has proven that warning labels decrease accidents, they are mostly there to protect the manufacturer from rediculous litigation.

For the past 20 years the choking hazard of hot-dogs has been known, so parent-groups and pediatricians have been warning new parents. But as Ron White says "You can't Fix Stupid".
