Hi, suddenly I think that I need to have a PDA or something like that, I usually have to make annotations and I tend to use any piece of paper that I have at my reach to do such thing, I?m considering to buy one, but I?m not sure, I know that I can live without that I do not know if you have some advice about this thing or maybe an alternative or whatever, I would appreciate any comment.

I carry around 3x5" notecards and a pen. Keep them in your pocket or wallet. I've tried using a PDA before, but it's 1000x faster to use a pen and paper. PDAs are handy because you can store EVERYTHING on them, all your lists from to do to shopping list to movies to see to music you want to buy. You might also consider a smart phone. I'm upgrading to a Motorola Q in April and you can make lists using the QWERTY keyboard on it pretty easily. How would you want to carry it? In your pocket or in a case clipped to your belt? It seems like Palm PDAs are much slimmer than PocketPC PDAs in that regard.

I am a BIG fan of the Dell Axim series of PDAs. I've had an X5 and an X51v. They go as high as $399 depending on what features you want (Bluetooth, Wifi, etc.). Do you plan on doing anything else on it, like surfing the net, listening to MP3s, etc.?

I?ve got a company Pocket PC, it?s a Qtek 2020i. I mainly use it for company related communication via GPRS though.

It?s got a feature embedded that enables me to set the processor to 'turbo mode'

I have a dell axim. Windows mobile is pretty good. Installing other applications has been fun too.
Most used feature is calendar and wi-fi browsing for email.

while i do agree that PDAs and phones aren't ideal when mashed together, i also think that a PDA without access to some sort of cellular data network is a castrated device.

Ok, and then if I have a cell phone and a PDA like 2 separated devices, is it, ok?

I wouldn't buy anything with less than VGA resolution. The difference in usability when I upgraded to one with that was huge.

Be sure to visit AximSite, a great resource and forum for all things Axim-related:

I bought a used Clie a couple years ago thinking it would be useful for sorting out my life instead of using the dry erase board in my room. I ended up never using it and I eventually sold it to a guy on craigslist.

About three months ago, I bought another PDA. At the time, I was interviewing for jobs right out of college, and I also had a million things I needed to do on a weekly basis. So I bought a Palm TX. I picked the TX because it got good reviews, it had wifi, and it was cheaper than an Axim. I use it everyday.

I really like my Palm TX

For about $250, you get bluetooth and wifi, office docs togo, etc... Dopewars is freeware. A little utility called SyncML lets me synch my PDA calander and notes to my business calandar (oracle) anywhere I can get an IP. Good screen color and brightness, decent battery life.

Go to www.aximsite.com and you can get a pretty good deal on a used Dell x50v or x51v. They're great for taking notes with a bluetooth keyboard, compiling shopping lists, compiling check lists, and are great as GPS units when paired with a $100 GPS receiver. I've literally driven across the country and back with the above combo.

Thanks for the advices, but what is the best and cheaper PDA that I can have, an Axim or maybe other one?

I?m willing to spend at most like $400, but I want to make a good choice, so the cheaper the better but I don?t want to get something useless.

I  my x50v. Make SURE to get the VGA model if you stay with the dell axim.

The wifi and GPS capabilities alone are worth it. Plus, with large capacity SD and CF cards being cheap, it makes a really good media player too.
