i love the treo 650. i have it, got it for $349... it's the best. i could never go back to a standard non-PDA phone. and the screen on the treo 650 rox0rz.

Where'd you get it for $350?

i attended a promotional show back in november for professionals. if you attended, you were entitled to a huge discount for the treo, and you didn't have to be attached to any service contracts or whatnot. it was a great deal, although i waited until january for the treo to arrive because of the demand.

the 650 is SO much better than the 600. fiance has the 600, and the screen resolution is poop compared to the 650.

Get the treo 650 for sure. Last time I checked the wirefly thread over in HD had the 650 for $300 with no rebates w/new act. Treocentral has it for $320 iirc

edit: ya, you can get it from wirefly for $300, no rebates, with new act.

Ah, I'd have to buy a plan from them too 🙁

where can you get it for $400 without act?

Directly from them, that's all I'll say 😉

NBO account? LMK! Im going to order one within the next couple of weeks but Ill probably spring for the unbranded/unlocked one.

Unfortunately with the way things work out, I can only order one. It's all about politics 😛

No worries, im still going to get it @ full price...think its worth it.

The Treo 650 is fairly decent but it has it's problems. Bluetooth range is horrid as in you can't put the phone in the pocket opposite your headset. The low volume makes it near impossible to hear someone on headset/speakerphone/bluetooth while driving. If your saved_preferences db gets corrupted due to a program like documents to go expect to spend a couple of hours re-setting up your Treo.

Mind you there are tradeoffs well worth it on the Treo 650. Things like
Built in MP3 player. A 1gb sd card gets you quite a bit of playtime. Built in camera and camcorder allowing you to take long videos without having to carry a bulky camcorder. Built in video capabilities, picture watching a dvd on your palm phone.

If you can get it for $400 it's probably worth it so long as you can put up with the bluetooth and volume problems.

The Treo's are nice, but they're a brick in my opinion. Not as bad as previous PDA phones, but still bulky.

I have a Samsung i500 (Palm OS) and there's also an i600 that uses PocketPC which I believe is the same form factor. The web browser on the i500 is very functional, and I can write pretty quickly with Graffiti.

I'm sure it can't be too in terms of bluetooth range 😕

I hope I'll be fine in my case because I'll be using it at my desk where I can keep it out and in the car I'll probably rest it somewhere nearby.

How can I figure out if it's going to be an issue or not? I don't really think this one issue would stop me from buying, but just curious

what cases y'all use with the Treo ?

none, but i use screen protectors.

i'm not sure why i don't have a case, but i know i'd take the treo out of my case enough that it wouldn't actually protect the device. (i play with the thing whenever i'm on the subway, as long as the battery is not dead yet)

and to everyone: treocentral.com is a great resource. (you'll get the 650-bluetooth-volume issue bashing though, so be careful. 😉 don't worry -- there's still a huge community of 650 supporters out there.)

aga, did you decide to get the 650? you definitely should ask the guys at treocentral about their experiences.

what email software do you use with the treo 650, my treo should be here at some point today

also what kind of speeds do you get with EDGE, i have the unlimited plan with cingular, i am pretty sure we have EDGE in san diego

wow you guys without cases... you should at least use the slip pouch it comes with. It's saved me from many drops. I use the Seidio swivel clip when I go out... works great. They make great accessories... the 2-in-1 retractable ear is good too.

yup, pretty much decided, just waiting for the right moment, in the next few weeks probably 😉

the 650 doesn't come with a case, sadly. my fiance has the 600 and yes, it does come with that case. to be honest, i initially would have liked one, but i hold onto my treo like it's my baby and so far, besides one nick on the bottom (that sort of wore off over time -- i almost forgot about it till this post), the treo is holding up.

that said, i dunno... i still go to treocentral.com to look at affordable cases, but for $25, i could buy more fun and exciting things. (i'd rather get another charger or battery, i think)

rh71: a swivel clip wouldn't look very attractive on a woman. might even give people the wrong idea. 😉

as for the email question: none. i use a standard pSSH for SSH, though. i don't pop or imap for the time being, but that may change.

oops, didn't consider that small detail. 🙂 Steal your bf's and make him get a clip.

I get around 110k download with EDGE. VNC,SSH,IRC,Shoutcast and AIM work fine at that speed... I run IRC over the SSH connection to my computer at home and it works fine. There are IRC clients for palm, but i prefer running IRSSI over the SSH connection. I haven't bothered to setup email yet, but the most popular clients are Snappermail and Chatteremail.

Here's a nice portal for treo's, links to shoutcasts etc on there which you can start directly from blazer(650's default browser).

I have Verizon, but also have my own Exchange 2003 server, so I have this bad boy. Its a phone AND pocket PC with slide out keyboard, so you have the best of both world. With the features such as Word, Excel, and any other PPC application you can installed (AIM, Acrobat Reader, etc), and pocket IE, its 10x better than any Treo, but a tad more expensive. Well worth every penny!

Treo has all those apps/services, except for IE. 😛

Not to mention that thing is bigger and heavier than a treo, and i don't really trust that whole sliding business since people have been complaining about it breaking and the thing crashing all the time.
