pcAnywhere problems

I'm at work trying to connect to a pcAnywhere host that our client has running. They are behind a regular LinkSys router and I had them forward the right ports so that they should be able to host. 5361 and 5362, tcp and udp, data and status ports respectively, i believe i did.

They are hosting with pcAny 10.5 and i'm trying to connect with 8.0 at the moment. The symantec website 8 and 10.5 should theoretically communicate fine. After forwarding these ports, I don't understand why i can't connect to the host. The PC i'm trying to connect with, another girl said she used to to connect to a host with it last year so i believe that the host is the problem here. The symantec site is Worthless for technical support to say the least. I'm not paying 30$ for a call 😛

Would I have to open any ports here to connect? Any ideas?

If they are behind a regular linksys, I would guess they are using DHCP and it is very possible that the host's NAT IP has changed, this means you would have to change the forwarding to her IP. I would also assume that you triple verified that the host is in fact runing on the PC in question?
That is where I would start. If the Inernal IP is the case, I would change the hosts internal IP to a static one. Also make sure you are hitting the right public IP for her as well.

Also, dump v.8, They just came out with 11. I believe 10.5 is supposed to be MUCH more secure then 8.
 
I triple checked that she is indeed running the host. The IP that i am trying to connect to Is the external IP and i can ping it fine.

As i said, i forwarded the ports on her router to point to her pc for 5631 and 5632. Not sure why this isn't working.
 
In the little time I used PC anywhere, I could only get it to go through a NAT firewall if you put the host as the DMZ host. At least just while you need access and then change it back.
 
i just talked to the manufacturer of our server to ask him what he thinks. he had me try to make a connection from within our network and it worked. then he set up a server (outside our network) and i was unable to connect. this led us to believe that the problem is indeed on my end.

So. Anyone know what to do if i want to connect to the host and i'm behind a proxy server?
 
Thanks for the DMZ hint. I usually wouldn't even usually think of doing that since my router at home's DMZ feature doesn't ever work. So i'll try to get the client to try to connect with me now as DMZ (this is hoping that maybe the problem isnt on my end) while i'm waiting to hear on how anyone thinks i can get around the proxy server issue (assuming, again, that it's my problem).

I am running NAT with Sonicwall firewalls on my client and hosts and never had a problem with forwarding the appropriate ports.
The proxy server may be your problem tho.
