Will not be a watered down console port..

DICE has some very welcome words for PC gamers that are Battlefield franchise fans. The upcoming Battlefield 3 for the PC will not be a watered down console port, but will instead be the best and most robust version of Battlefield 3 that takes advantage of the special and unique nature of the PC platform.

While Battlefield 3 will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the PC version will be the one to buy if you want the best version of the title. While the developer didn’t go into specifics, the surprising sales of Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the PC platform, along with the continued support of PC Battlefield players that are still playing the older Battlefield titles, could have had a significant impact on DICE’s decisions surrounding the PC version of Battlefield 3.

Despite the much better than expected sales of Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the PC platform, PC gamers were very vocal about the fact that the game felt much dubbed down and played like a console port of the game. These issues, along with multiple bugs on the PC version of the game, led to the Battlefield community sounding off about the fact that the release of Battlefield 3 on the PC needed to be different. Apparently, DICE heard those pleas.

The recently released Medal of Honor includes access to the Battlefield 3 beta which is expected at some point in 2011, but the studio and the publisher are not saying when this might happen. Still, little is known about Battlefield 3, but it is expected that Electronic Arts will have a coming out party for Battlefield 3 at E3 next year where some of the details will be filled in.

As for the PC release of the Medal of Honor multiplayer which was developed by DICE, it seems that many of the same complaints that players had with the Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the PC have followed this title, as well. Despite a number of bugs in the initial release, DICE seems to have been very diligent in releasing a number of patches to correct the issues. The game seems to be more playable in multiplayer mode now; but again, complaints of it feeling like a console port continue to follow reviews of the title.

The PC version of an online multi-player FPS game better than the console version? That's no news.

"Best" is a relative term, it'll still be a bug-ridden lagfest like every other Battlefield game.

It's not a worthy BF2 replacement unless it has 64+ player LAN support with dedicated servers that the end users can create.

Indeed. I still hold out hope though because I have long been a fan of the Battlefield series (hell I even like BF:Vietnam :D )

I don't see LAN support but I see 64 players and modable. LAN is getting less and less supported with the rise of broadband.

Also like said many times before, I'll believe it when I see it. EA always says a lot of stuff.

If they cock up BF3, I'm done with gaming. The battlefield franchise has been my home, the only true following I've had in the few years I've been a gamer. I enjoyed COD4 and WaW, but BF has been my game since 42. I loved 42, loved DC, played vietnam a bit (I was quite late to that party) and built my first rig just for BF2 when I found my old POS couldn't hack it anymore. BF2 was buggy at times but insanely addicting. BC2 is fun, but it has none of the scope of the classic BF games. It's a hell of a lot more than the COD series, but still...I've been waiting for BF3 for going on 4 years now.

It's good of them to say this, but it should be a no-brainer for them. They fucked around on bad company, which really isn't a surprise but I'd expect them to bring their A-game for a sequel to BF2. They know they have a lot of followers of that franchise.

what they're doing with MoH scares me though. the game is barely out and there's already a $10 DLC... and everyone was saying the game was overpriced to begin with at $60.

lol, you beat me to it. it's amazing how every single BF game seems to always have the same problems. you'd think they'd learn by now?

After BC2 I'm done with EA/DICE (should have been done with BF2 but ATPCG talked me into BC2...never again).

biggest piece of garbage games i've ever played.

Flat out - I do not believe this at all until I see it. They said the same b.s. with BC2, that PC gamers wouldn't get screwed with a console port but that's exactly what we got.

I'm pretty devastated they're doing this. Unless this game is through and through a pc game first which is then ported to consoles - I'm out. Sadly the temptation and the namebrand power will probably overwhelm me and I'll still get it, but I'm DYING for a modernized version of BF2. Give me a similar game but with all the advances of the latest tech. I still load up BF2 occasionally but it just feels so wooden and old school compared to modern shooters...

I really wish that when they release a new battlefield game that they would include an updated version of 1942 in it. I've always felt that the original games air combat was the funnest thing in the franchise.

I don't understand the hate for Bad Company 2 on PC. Granted, I just got it a month ago but I am a huge BF2/1942/DC person, and I thought Bad Company 2 was pretty good. Not on the same level of excellence as the previous games, but miles better than any of the other crap out right now.

It is basically infantry mode from BF2, except done right. That means no big planes, etc. I think people are expecting something else... BF3 is where we will see 64+ players, planes, etc.

I just hope they get air vehicles right this time. BF2 was great in that respect, BF2142 made it worse and BC2 ruined it.

BF2 - helicopters are extremely powerful in the right player's hands, but relatively slow and hard to maneuver; they must stay low and around cover to survive, but have to break out to repair / reload or make an assault at some point. Everyone and their dog as something that's ready to blow you out of the sky or put a bullet through your cockpit. Perfection.

BF2142 - "helicopters" are extremely fast and jerky to maneuver; they tend to do best at higher altitudes making quick strafing runs (with rockets...) or hunting other helicopters. Other helis are generally your biggest threat, and rockets feel less accurate and less powerful than BF2 (especially air to ground). They still need to land to repair and reload. A change for the worse, but bearable.

BC2 - helicopters are once again a bit slower and harder to maneuver, and once again everything wants to (and will) blow you out of the sky. Rockets feel less accurate and less powerful than BF2, and maps generally have far less cover to hide behind. Rockets automatically reload themselves (?!) rather than having to land at a helipad. Ridiculous.

At the risk of being slightly off-topic, in my opinion BF2 helicopters were not "Perfection" . . . a helicopter should not be able to withstand a direct hit from a tank shell. With that much firepower and manoeuverability a helicopter should be more fragile, as they are in real life, for decent game balance.

Battlefield 3 has a lot to live up to, and any news that it should be a proper Battlefield game is welcome. But yeah, we'll believe it when we see it.

yep, the CoD games are 100x better than any BF game will ever be.
I can get into a MW2 game and actually kill people and have fun. BF games are just a lesson in frustration. Shitty hitboxes, shitty weapons that have no accuracy, huge maps that take forever to get to the action, assholes that TK for vehicles, assholes that don't give you a ride, 90% of the people just sniping, players look like ants unless they're 2 feet in front of you if you can see them at all because they blend into the environment, etc, etc, etc.

I'm not saying the CoD games are perfect, but for me they are much better than BF games.

Well, true, but keep in mind that it's just a game and not a sim. On a similar note, I've been in a helicopter and fired an entire salvo of rockets at a couple of infantry, only to have every single one land around them but not directly on top of them. They keep running like nothing happened, while in real life they'd probably be killed or wounded by shrapnel, or at the very least knocked down from the concussion of the blasts. I've had a rocket score a direct hit on a open-top Jeep only to have it keep driving. The list goes on.

It's not perfect in terms of realism, but it was "perfect" in terms of overall feeling of power, superiority, control, etc. You're a glass cannon, essentially.

The vehicles were a tad bit overpowered in BF2. If you had to land the jet / chopper to reload it would have been more balanced. I don't mind the BC2 vehicles as much. I have never played 2142.

I am looking forward to a real BF2 successor. I just hope DICE can deliver.

I agree on all points. I think BC2 got a lot of love from people who simply jumped on the CoD hate bandwagon. I gave up on MW2 as well but it's not going to make me jump to an even worse game just to spite them.

I'll put it this way - with MW2, I eventually gave up and quit playing, but it took months for that to happen. With BC2, it only took playing the beta for 15 minutes for me to give up on it.

I had like 200 hours in MW2 before I quit playing it. I've tried to play again a few times after that and it was fun but i just got burned out with it.

I had 41 hours in BC2 before I quit and I think most of that was playing the SP. The SP in BC2 was fun (not as fun as CoD games).
