I am using a thinkpad laptop for work, and SERIOUSLY considering to switch to the mba 11 or 13 inch just for the lightness..

But the problem is MS office for mac sucks, and I use office a lot (ppt and heavy excel modelling). So If I buy a mba and use parallels for windows, or dual boot into windows, will this work? or just defeats the purpose of owning a mac in the first place

There are plenty of thin and light Windows Ultrabooks, some with much better specs than the MBA too. For example the Asus Zenbook Prime.

Windows on a mac will be much worse than Windows on an equivalent ultrabook since apple deliberately cripples windows support on their systems.

People do not want to tinker with their computers, worry about Anti virus, fake anti virus, spamware, trojans DLL hell, registry rot, weird crashes, .NET runtime issues etc..

So people prefer to pay more for a Macintosh. Cheaper than all the downtime and the costs involved in sending the PC to get cleaned/fixed every so often.

Funny but I've never had those issues.

PC is killing it in the poll, 83% now.

Windows and Linux. I have used OSX, but only when helping friends. Easy OS to work with, but not worth the price to me. And no, I'm not building a hackintosh :p

Linux is great, keep windows around for games.

You see "killing it", I see "Windows Based PC's" slipping market share.

That 83% also includes several percent of Linux users and people that are dual owners of Apple and PC products that couldn't vote one way or the other.

That number is probably closer to 70-75% once you exclude Linux users...because who cares about them anyway ;) and then split the percent out for dual households. Apple is moving around 16 million macbooks a year.

And that number gets even more interesting when you include "alternate consumption devices" like the 100+ million iPads Apple has sold in the last 3 years.

Compare that to 10 years ago when the iPod was just some high priced MP3 player and Macs accounted for around 5% of the market share. Apple has made a HUGE push in the computing industry.

Now 84%. So wow, 3 out of every 4 are using Windows if you take out Linux users, but 84% on a tech forum are using Windows. Food for thought.

Considering this a tech forum almost entirely aimed at PC building, I would say yes, that is significant. I could go to Macrumors and see a poll of 30,000 people of which 75% were Mac owners.

Your point?

You're really on some kind of mission to get your point across, aren't you?

Now, I don't know what that point really is, but at least you're passionate.

I doubt running "Ruby via Terminal (Sass, Compass, Jekyll) and Node.js and Python" is faster than a Win7 64-bit machine. Performance should be comparable. 32-bit Windows like XP, I see your point though.

I didn't say anything about performance. I said it was easier -- and most of that ease is because the languages are already installed (Ruby/Python) or have had an easy to use OS X installer for longer (Node).

I would think leg surface mouse users are in the minority.

As I've said a mouse with a high enough dpi sensor is fine for just the palmrest of the laptop. Some of the logitech notebook oriented mice do have a relatively high dpi sensor.

Granted, I dont travel for business as much as I used to, but I rarely seen anyone using a mouse on a palmrest or on their leg. And I say rarely even though I dont think I've ever seen anyone do either. In meetings at work, no one brings their own mouse, although I have seen a couple of instances where someone had a mouse at their desk to use with their laptop. People generally want to stay mobile when they use a laptop for work.

but in the 90's you wouldn't walk into a coffee shop either and see everyone sitting around with a device on a desk...

I never cared for apple devices in the past, and now I pretty much despise the company, so you'll never see me owning an apple anything, ever :p

$32.99 Netbook:

SYLVANIA SYNET07526 VIA 8505 Processor 400MHz 7" TFT 128MB Memory 2GB Internal Storage HDD Netbook:

That's your daily driver?! I'm a fan of cheap computers, but that's a little tough, especially with WinCE D^:

You should be able to get a used Eee for less than $100, and with some GNU/Linux lovin', it would give you much more speed and functionality.
