I was just trying to bring some balance to this conundrum. I didn't think it was fair that all the nut case ideas were all over on the other side. I don't always post what I actually think. I have discovered that while nut cases never see themselves, they always see me.

cheap food, exploiting people. slums, crime, high taxes, and more money out of your states, cities, county coffers. yup sounds like a excellent plan.

i guess the past 20 years isnt a good enough of a example of why illegals should be stopped. hell lets continue to let it happen for another 20!

Doing fine here 🙂 As far as higher taxes, if someone wants to live in some air polluted central valley sh!thole and do hard work in the field all day so I can have cheap fruits and vegetables, the least I can do is help pay for them to go to the hospital when they get sick. Even with all the taxes and sky is falling crowd here, I am doing pretty well here in CA.

Maybe you didn't get owned but you've pretty much discredited whatever positions you're pushing. You're basing your immigration policy on cheap agriculture? And what's more your willing to subvert the rule of law for said cheap agriculture? Wow.

The most ridiculous thing is that even if it's true agriculture is cheaper as a result of immigration, this cheapness is being paid for in other areas like public services. (And don't even pretend for a second these menial jobs generate enough taxes to pay for said services.)

Savings in grocery bills and agricultural business profits more than pay for increased taxes to pay for these public services. If these illegals weren't there doing these jobs, one would have to hire an American, who feels entitled to a lot more pay and benefits and public services than these illegals, who don't even get social security. Or they would have to let fruits rot in the field, which has been happening, that reduces supply and increases prices.

I have serious doubts about your accounting there but what I find more interesting is you sticking to your cheap groceries platform. If cheap groceries is so important maybe we should just have fully subsidized grocery bills for all Americans?

Why do you find it interesting? Do you stick to low tax platform? Well higher grocery bills would be an effective tax on me.
We have farm subsidies and food stamps too.
But there is going to be a net reduction in farming in US if there is not seasonal farm labor to pick it. Americans are more interested in sitting at home collecting ever extended unemployment checks than getting out there in hot, polluted Central Valley and picking veggies all day for minimum wage.

So you don't care that illegal aliens are exploited and often work for less than minimum wage? What about child labor? Most of these kids are also illegal, but hey if it means you can save $.10 on a head of lettuce, then it's all worth it right?

I picked cherries during one summer when I was a kid, climbed trees and all, fun times. Then I put restaurant fliers on various homes at ripe old age of 13, that was child labor, but damn, all that walking kept me in shape, and paid for my first mountain bike, then I got of legal working age and into computer jobs and got really fat :|

It's interesting because most people would consider it trivial compared to the rule of law or other ideological goals. We live in a wealthy society where food prices are really not an issue, especially for someone who professes to be as well off as yourself.

I also profess to be for progressive taxation, higher food prices are a regressive tax. Those would be ideological goals 🙂 Not that those should outweigh kitchen table issues. Of course ideally we'd have some sort of legal way to do it, but don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

So the ends justify the means?

Why not keep the rule of law by arguing for a tax credit or more food stamps instead of ignoring people that ignore our borders and customs (as in border customs not cultural customs)?

Tax credits for more food stamps are just going to cause food inflation if fields are left unplanted or food is left to rot in the field due to lack of farm labor. More money chasing less produce leads to food inflation.
