Mass Effect - very solid game; similar to all other Bioware games in terms of story and character buildup; inventory system is clunky; gameplay is focused on third person shooting and being able to pause the action to setup spell like abilities

The Witcher - haven't completed the game yet; it's a very dialogue / decision based game; combat is pretty simplistic; think you'll really like the game if you can get into what the developers were trying to do by making The Witcher very dialogue / decision focused

Fallout 3 - treat the game like a RPG and not a FPS; if you can appreciate the side missions, then you'll probably enjoy FO3 a great deal. if you just bum rush your way through the game though, the main story is lacking and you'll likely end up disappointed.

Company of Heroes (Gold Edition) - great game; if you like RTSes, you should like CoH

IMO there's not a ton of reason to get World at War if you're getting MW2. Just my opinion though.

Ya, 4 of them are from Amazon, but the others are not. :awe:

Although, after looking for the other titles I am wanting, they are a few bucks cheaper on Amazon as well.

I add a couple of more games too

Prince of persia
Prey (played the demo..loved it since)

Because of you..i blew 100 bucks as well.

Thanks ! :D

I am going to be buying this list of games here in a few days, does anyone have anything good to say about them or has anyone here played them ?

When I buy games, I usually buy them in lot's. If this lot is good, I can get the entire list for $100 shipped. Which I think is worth it if they are good. I watched reviews but hard for me to base my decision on those alone.

The list:

Mass Effect - have it but never played
SWAT 4 (Gold Edition) - a bit slow, gotta arrest guys - can't just kill them.
The Witcher - started but never finished. its ok. seems kind of slow. combat is kind of boring.
World in Conflict (Complete Edition)
Soldier of Fortune Payback - bad, real bad. nothing like SoF2. If you can get it for less than $5 it might be ok for a quick playthrough.
Fallout 3 - ugh...so boring. nothing like fallout 1 or 2
Company of Heroes (Gold Edition) - i loved the beginning with the infantry combat but once they introduced vehicles, i started to like it less.
Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 - awesome! SP is fun, MP is fun but can be a bit laggy and there are cheaters. if you have a friend that has it, do the co-op specs ops missions - super fun!
Call Of Duty World At War -edit: I thought this originally was CoD4. I played WaW SP only. it was fairly decent, but nothing like the other Cod games.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind picking up Grim Fandango as well. Played it before years and years ago. Tried recently and it would not run on XP Pro worth a shit. Was distorted and upside down.

I've gotten it to work on 7 (or Vista maybe, was a while back) without too much trouble. It works alright, but there are a few problems from what I remember. You also can't run the game at any resolution higher (or lower?) than 640x480. There's a third party launcher that I found that will allow you to play in full screen, but it's still going to be at 640x480 so it looks pretty bad.

I remember when I first played it, although almost ten years ago I think ? I think it was either Win 95 or Win 98 at 640 res. Was a fun game.

I have found a few copies on Amazon and other places, but damn they want a lot for it.

For Mass Effect, The Witcher and Fallout 3, u'r gonna love these story and RPG aspects.

For those 2 call of duties...U WILL NOT REGRET IT I SWARE...

and I really don't like the slow-pacedness of SWAT 4

I haven't tried those others....

I could be alone but I hated World In Conflict. Just hated it. Tanks die like infantry in that game, I dunno.. tons of artillery spamming, if thats your thing go for it.

personally I didnt like it and wish I did not buy

Well I can say truthfully that I have never played World In Conflict. But I think I may have played the Company Of Hero's demo a few years back ? I don't know, it just looks familiar to me now for some reason.

And which do you gamers here suppose is better ? Diablo 2 Battle Chest or World Of Warcraft Battle Chest ?

I already picked up the Diablo 2 BC from a friend, and wondering about WOW now.

Oh, and I think the reason for the Call Of Duty games is because I am a completist. I have all of the previous Call Of Duties, Just dont have MW, WAW or MW2.

And what do you all think about the new Medal Of Honor that is coming out ? It reminds me of Bad Company 2 somewhat. Guess I'll have to pick that up as well since I have the Medal Of Honor 10th Anniversary set.

I've been playing it for years and I never noticed tanks dying like infantry.
And I never found out how you could possibly spam artillery, unless you used a trainer or cheat code.

Mass Effect
SWAT 4 (Gold Edition)
The Witcher
World in Conflict (Complete Edition)
Soldier of Fortune Payback
Fallout 3
Company of Heroes (Gold Edition)
Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2
Call Of Duty World At War

Mass Effect is very, very good. Extremely rich story telling, great visuals, hope your computer can handle the eyecandy.

Swat games have never been and will never be any good.

The Witcher is pretty good. Combat is interesting. Good looking game, immersive, lots of game time.

I didn't really like Fallout 3, but tons of people do so go for it.

I don't have experience with any other games on this list.

I only saw the first game on your list. Ignore the rest, okay? Just play ME to your heart's desire, and then go play the second because it is worth the price (And there have been deals on it). Then become a ME junkie like me waiting for the next fix of red sand. Too bad I don't get any biotic sensations

I think based on what I have heard here, the first one I will play out of the lot is Mass Effect.

Swat games have never been and will never be any good.

SWAT 4 was Irrational's trial-run with the Unreal engine before putting out Bioshock. They did a superb job creating a uber-tense game that rewarded patient play, and was great fun in co-op. Not so great if you're into twitch-fests like CoD etc though.

Now, it may not be to your taste, but saying it isn't a good game? Bah! I spit on your opinion

SWAT 4 is insanely fun at LAN parties, especially when people get frustrated with trying to stun opponents and just whip out their pistols/whatever and start shooting. Bonus points for team killing since it's almost impossible to distinguish friends and foes (the only difference is a tiny red or blue stripe on their back).

Well I exaggerated.

Basically was trying to say the focus of the game seemed to be much more on things like nukes, artillery, your spawn tanks very quickly which to me seemed to negate the need for infantry.

But, really all I played was like maybe 9 single player missions? I struggled to get through them and just didnt play any more. maybe MP is where its at.

To the OP, WIC is not a bad game at all. Just Thought I would throw my 2 cents in - I hated it.

But, I loved The Witcher, which some also hate :)

Actually, a lot of guys said the MP is awesome.
You pick either tanks, infantry, or air cavalry. And there is a strong paper, rocks, scissor balance to the game.

if you want to consider painkiller, dont consider resurrection...go with just the plain painkiller. its had different companies making its expansion and sequel. which arent too bad. but original painkiller is much more than those.
Dreamkiller came out in Oct. 09 and isnt too bad. its a cool concept, worth checking out

you are probably better off cherry picking when the good ones are on sale aka COH and ME

I would agree that these are the best. Havent played most of the others. Want to try fallout 3. Did play MW2 and World at War. Modern Warfare 1 was great, both sp and mp. World at War is OK. MW2: single player makes no sense and multiplayer is nerfed by lack of dedicted servers.
